Chapter 1: The Woman In His Bed

1376 Words
My billionaire husband had been sleeping with my own biological sister even while our wedding guests were celebrating downstairs. The sound from Vanessa clinging and moaning Damien’s name shattered something inside Serena Vale before she could even get hold of and open the bedroom door. Music drives faintly from the ballroom everywhere below. Champagne glasses clinked. Laughter echoed, smiled and happiness filled the room. Their wedding reception was still ongoing. But upstairs, in the master suite of the Ashford penthouse, Serena’s marriage had already died. Her fingers became stiff around the silver tray in her hands. Damien liked tea after business meetings. Even on their wedding night, the ruthless CEO of Ashford Global had left her alone downstairs to “take an important call.”that led to having an affair with her own sister, She should have known this earlier, but sadly it was too late,to turn the hands of the clock. She should have noticed the whispers from guests. The unwelcome looks. The pity. She should have noticed when her sister Vanessa disappeared too. Another breathless moaned and banging slipped through the half-open door. “Damien…” Serena could finally stopped breathing. A low masculine chuckle pull up. Deep. Cold. Dangerously familiar. “No one’s ever coming upstairs now ,not at this moment,” Damien murmured lazily. “If only they want to die.” The tray slipped from Serena’s hands. Porcelain exploded across the marble floor. Silence erupted instantly. Then the bedroom door opened slowly. Damien Ashford stood there with his white dress shirt hanging widely open, exposing the hard sculpted chest Serena had spent two years secretly craving and dying for. Lipstick stains marked all over his neck. Red scratches lined all around his skin. None of them belonged was hers. Her husband’s gray eyes landed on her face. No guilt. No shame. Only irritation. Behind him, Vanessa was sitting half n***d on the bed covered halfway with Serena’s silk bridal robe with one pale leg crossed over the other. The robe Serena had prepared for her wedding night with her Damien. Her stomach got twisted so violently. Vanessa laughed first. “Well,” she said lightly. “This is awkward.” Serena stared at her sister in anger and disbelief. This was the woman she had alway protected her entire life. The girl she raised right after their parents died. The sister she trusted even more than herself. And now she was in Serena’s matrimonial bed with Serena’s husband. The pain felt unreal and unbelievable. Damien leaned one shoulder against the doorway casuallyto upstairs any scenario, completely not moved by the destruction in Serena’s eyes. “You’re causing a scene,” he said coldly. Serena couldn't believe her ears but actually laughed. A small broken sound after she finds her voice. “A scene?” Her voice trembled. “You’re sleeping with my own sister even on our wedding night.” Vanessa rolled her eyes. “Oh please. Spare us the dramatic wife act.” Serena looked at Damien desperately. Tell me this isn’t real or tell me this is true ,or tell me am dreaming. Tell me you’re drunk. Tell me I mattered. But Damien only adjusted his trousers and bulge calmly. “You weren’t supposed to find this out tonight.” The words hit harder than the cheating itself on serena. Serena’s chest became tightened and painfully. “Tonight?” she whispered. “Wow! How long has this been happening?” Vanessa smiled cruelly, and wickedly “Almost a year, or so” Serena’s knees nearly left out. A year!. An entire year!!. While Serena defended him. Loved him. Waited for him, Cherish him among other men. Damien watched her quietly, his expression unreadable, and unbelievable. And somehow that hurt even more. No guilt. No remorse. Nothing. Vanessa rose from the bed and took a walked toward them slowly. “She was always temporary anyway,” Vanessa said casually. “You married her for the company shares. We both know that.” Serena turned toward Damien sharply. Her heart hurt painfully inside her chest. “Tell me she’s lying.” Damien’s silence destroyed, and render her wretched. Tears burned through Serena’s eyes instantly. Two years. Two years of loving a man who looked at her like she was convenient instead of precious. She remembered every lonely night. Every anniversary spent alone. Every cold kiss. Every moment she begged herself to be patient because one day Damien would finally love her back and come back to her. How stupid and foolish had she been to believe that. How humiliatingly stupid. “You promised me this marriage would become real, and just for you and I” Serena whispered shakily. Damien’s jaw tightened slightly. “That was before things changed, said Damien's.” The answer sliced straight through her. Vanessa slipped her arms around Damien’s waist possessively from behind. The movement was intimate. Natural. Like she belonged there. And Damien let her touch him. Serena suddenly realized something horrifying, and terrible. Damien had never looked at her the way he looked at Vanessa. Never with heat. Never with hunger. Never with weakness. But right now? Even standing beside another woman, Damien’s gaze remained dangerously alive, not even a slight of love and affection towards her. Vanessa noticed it too. Her expression darkened instantly. “You should leave,” Vanessa snapped at Serena. “You’re ruining our night.” Our night. Serena’s breathing became uneven and uncontrollable. Something sharp twisted low in her stomach again. The nausea. The dizziness. For the past week, her body had felt strange. Sensitive. Emotional. Late. Her fingers instinctively brushed her abdomen. She had planned to tell Damien tonight. After the reception. After the dancing. After maybe finally becoming husband and wife for real. A tiny bitter smile touched her lips. Pathetic. Damien got to noticed the movement immediately. His eyes narrowed slightly. “What’s really wrong with you?” The concern in his voice was faint. Barely there. But Serena still couldn't still but hated herself for noticing it. For reacting to it. For loving him enough that scraps of attention still affected her. Vanessa stepped closer to Damien instantly, like she sensed danger. “She’s was obviously trying to gain sympathy.” Serena looked at both of them. At the man she loved. At the sister she trusted. Standing together against her. Humiliating her without mercy. Something cold finally settled inside her chest. Not heartbreak. Not weakness. Something darker. Something dangerous. Serena slowly lifted her gaze to Damien. “You’ll regret this.”she finally said . Vanessa laughed openly. “You? What exactly can you do?” Damien’s eyes stayed fixed on Serena’s face. Intense. Sharp. Almost searching. For one strange second, tension thickened painfully between them. Because despite everything… Damien still looked a bit affected by her tears. And Serena hated him for it. Hated that even now, he looked devastatingly beautiful standing there half-undressed with another woman’s lipstick on his skin. Hated that her body still reacted to and still yearn for him. Hated that she still loved him but couldn't help. Damien stepped closer suddenly. Too close. The scent of expensive cologne and whiskey surrounded her instantly. “You’re emotional,” he said quietly. “Don’t say things you can’t take back.” Serena looked up at him with shattered eyes. “Wow! Did you ever love me at all?” Silence. A dangerous silence. Then Damien answered softly. “Hmm, No.” The single word buried her, even been alive and Strong. Serena physically stepped backward like he had slapped her. But Damien’s expression shifted immediately afterward. Just slightly. Almost like regret. Almost like he hated hurting her. Yet not enough to stop. That tiny contradiction made him even more dangerous. Even more addictive. Vanessa grabbed his arm possessively. “Damien.” He ignored her completely. His gaze remained locked on Serena. Heavy. Burning. Unsettling. Then Serena’s phone rang. The loud sound shattered the tension instantly. Unknown number. Her trembling fingers answered immediately. “Hello?” A frantic male voice exploded through the speaker. “Miss Vale, thank God. Your father’s private jet…” Serena’s blood turned cold. “What about it?” The man hesitated. Then— “It exploded thirty minutes ago.”
