Chapter Three

Selene’s POV My eyes slowly fluttered open, and in my hazy state, I realized I was placed against a wall. I remained silent, my breathing heavy as I tried to listen in on my surroundings, wondering if the men who had taken me were present. On hearing nothing, with shaky breath, I slowly rose and began to blindly feel things to get an idea of where I was but the whole place felt unfamiliar. My whole body shook with fear and tears pricked the back of my eyelids as I blindly reached out, touching random things and the wall, in a bid to find the exit. Soon, my hands grazed the doorknob and without a second thought, I twisted the door open, immediately stepping out of the room. But just as I turned the corner and was about to flee blindly into an unknown place, a sultry voice stopped me in my tracks. It was Amelia. “I don’t know what I would have done without you Leo,” she muttered, her voice filled with fake sadness I could detect right away. “You mean the whole world to me and I’m so grateful to the moon goddess for bringing you my way.” My heart palpitated frantically against my rib cage, sadness engulfing me as I began to follow her voice, trying to locate where they were. “Stop crying, I don’t like seeing you sad,” Leo replied, his voice as soft as wool. I paused in my tracks and bit my inner cheeks in a bid to hold back my tears. My hands trembled as I tried to make sense of what I was hearing. Every word that passed between Leo and Amelia felt like knives twisting deeper into my chest. A part of me wanted to rush forward, confront them, demand answers but fear rooted me in place. My wolf growled low, warning me of the danger I couldn’t yet see, and yet, my instincts told me I couldn’t stay hidden forever. Without any word, I slowly began to back away but a firm hand and an unfamiliar scent caused me to remain rooted to the spot. “Come with me,” the deep baritone voice muttered, dragging me along with him. I knew I couldn’t trust him not after what had happened earlier but for reasons I couldn’t explain, this stranger’s touch made me feel at peace, his gentle nudge made me feel like I could trust him, even Nina howled excitedly in my head, urging me to trust him. We got to a stop and just as I was about to ask him who he was and where we were, his hot minty breath fanned my face. “Why do you still remain with that dumb alpha?” He asked, his voice husky and thick with emotion. “You drive me insane Sel. I should take you with me right now but for now, go home. I’ll wait for you to come look for me.” Before I could process what was happening, I got shoved into a car and in a few minutes arrived at the mansion. As I lay in bed, I couldn’t help but wonder who the strange man was, his scent felt oddly familiar but I couldn’t quite place where I had met him before. His aura was quite powerful and strong, not like a regular wolf. I tried to ask Nina why she had gotten excited with the man’s presence but she remained silent, leaving me to my thoughts. Exhaling slowly, I rose from the bed and began to peel my clothes off my body, wanting to take a warm shower to clear my head but a knock on the door made me pause. “What do you want?” I asked tiredly. “I’m here with your dress my lady. The alpha ordered a dress for you to wear tomorrow for the pack event,” the maid at the door announced. With an eye roll, I muttered, “Come in.” The door creaked open and the sound of footsteps got closer until it came to a halt. “I have placed the dress on the sofa, my lady.” I nodded absentmindedly. “Tell me Alice, what does the dress look like?” Alice let out a low chuckle. “I must confess my lady, the alpha really does love you. The dress he got you is so gorgeous. It’s wine colored dress that is adorned with silver embroidery at the hem that catches light with every movement. It truly is one of a kind, my lady,” she finished, her laughter filling the space. A picture of the dress formed in my mind and my brows furrowed deep in thinking. The dress Alice had described sounded just like the dress Amelia had worn on my twentieth birthday, the night I had caught her in bed, my first mate. And that was when it suddenly dawned on me, every dress, every shoe Leo had ever gotten were things that Amelia liked, her favorite kind of dresses and shoes. It now made sense why he always got me heels I could barely walk in even after complaining a thousand and one times about how I preferred low heels. Leo wasn't obsessed with the dresses themselves, he was obsessed with the woman who loved wearing them, Amelia. Was it the same when we were… in bed? Or when we shared the mate bond? Was I truly his mate? He didn't love me. But to preserve his own delusion, he'd been playing me for a fool. That was unforgivable. Anger and disgust rushed through me and I made my way towards the sofa, picked up the dress, and flung it across the room. “My lady? Are you okay?” Alice voice reverberated through the space, bringing me out of my reverie. “Get me my phone.” In a few seconds, she handed me my phone, and with a flick of my fingers, I dismissed her. With just one tap, I immediately placed a call to one of my best friends Liam. “Come get me immediately and while you are at it, please draft a divorce letter, and also I’ll need you to make a visit to the doctor and get a medical report that shows I have terminated the baby.” “Huh? Baby?” He questioned, confusion evident in his voice. “What baby Selene? What are you talking about? Are you okay?” “Please Liam, just do as I say, I’ll explain everything once you get here.” With that, I hung up the phone and with my heart thudding in my chest, I leaned back into the sofa, wrapping myself as the pain engulfed me. For two years I had completely loved Leo, I had thought he was the balm to my pain, that he was my savior but alas he was the very bane of my existence. I wanted them to suffer, to shed more tears than I have and nothing was going to stop me. Not the moon goddess. Not fate. Not even death. I didn’t know for how long I had been on the sofa wailing my eyes out but soon, a knock sounded on the door. “My lady, someone is here to see you,” the maid announced. “Bring him in.” In a few minutes, Liam was up in my bedroom. Without any words, his cold hand grabbed mine and he placed a brown file in my hand. “Here are the documents you requested for. It wasn’t easy getting the medical report in your name,” he said, gazing into my eyes. “Sel, what’s going on?” With a nod, I collected the file and threw it to the ground. “Let’s get out of here. I’ll tell you everything I’ve we are out,” I said, not meeting his gaze. As we stepped out of the mansion, a wave of emotion washed through me and I glanced back anger engulfing me. I no longer wanted him. Not as an alpha. Not as a mate. And most certainly not as the father of my child.
