Leo's POV
I returned home the next morning completely exhausted and haunted by the fact that I had left Selene all alone last night but I just couldn’t have left Amelia to be on her own due to the pain she was feeling.
For someone I didn’t love or care about, she had been on my mind throughout the night and I just couldn’t understand why.
I had visited a flower shop to get her favorite flowers, white roses to apologize to her. Selene wasn’t one to throw tantrums and I knew once she saw her favorite flower, she’d forgive me.
Clearing my throat softly, I gently opened the door hoping to find Selene curled up in bed but all I saw was an empty bed with the sheets on the floor. I made my way towards the toilet, called out her name but got no response.
My brows furrowed in confusion and just as I bent down to pick up the sheets, my eyes fell on a file on the ground. With raised brows, I picked it up and immediately emptied its contents.
My eyes widened in surprise as my gaze landed on a divorce letter that already had Selene’s signature on it.
I rolled my eyes at her tantrum and was about to throw the document across the room when another piece of paper fell through.
Beads of sweat began to form on my forehead as I held the document tightly, unable to tear my gaze from it. The document showed proof of Selene terminating our baby, the one child I had hoped and prayed for for years.
“No… No. This wasn’t possible, Selene would never do this to me. She loved me too much to leave me,” I murmured, my heart thudding in fear.
I made my way towards the wardrobe and her dressing table and saw that every single item was intact which only meant this was some sick joke.
Anger rushed through me as I squeezed the document in my hands. Was she taking my kindness for weakness?
With the speed of flash, I immediately rang the bell for the maid, and in a few seconds, she arrived.
“Where’s my mate?” I asked impatiently.
“She went out since last night with a friend your highness.”
“A friend? Who?”
“I don’t know your highness. He came to the house and picked her up last night and she hasn’t returned since then.”
“He?” I muttered slowly, my face contorting into a frown.
Disgust and rage rushed through me at the thought of Selene cheating and a low growl escaped me.
“You saw her leaving with a man whom I have never welcomed here before and you didn’t deem it fit to place a call to me immediately?”
“Bunch of fools, all of you,” I yelled in anger. “Get out.”
The maid scurried out of the room and I immediately grabbed my phone, placing a call to my beta.
“Selene left the house since last night, I need you to find her location and who she is with immediately.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Kade replied without hesitation before he hung up.
A frustrated sigh escaped my lips and I tossed the phone on the bed, running my fingers through my hair in confusion. None of this made any sense. Selene would never humiliate me like this. She was meek, she literally would never go against me.
Was this her way of punishing me for leaving last night?
My eyes traveled to the divorce document and the medical report and my chest tightened. Would she really terminate our baby just cause of her anger toward me?
“No she wouldn’t. Sel would never leave me,” I muttered to myself. “She loved me even more than herself.”
Using mate bond, I tried to connect to her but our bond felt weak, faint. Like it would snap any moment from now. Pain crept into my heart, mixing with anger.
A low growl tore through my throat as images of her lying in bed with another man ran through my mind.
Selene Casper! The rejected wolf I had taken pity on and made my mate against my better judgment. If only Amelia hadn’t gotten into that accident that cost her eyes, then I wouldn’t have made Selene my Luna. I had taken pity on her, brought her into my home, and treated her better than anyone ever has but she still had the audacity to do this to me? After everything I have done and given to her?
The sound of my phone blaring brought me out of my reverie. I exhaled slowly, trying to calm my raging emotions before picking up the call.
“Kade,” I answered.
“Alpha, the Luna is no longer in the pack. I traced the vehicle that picked her up,” he said. “But Alpha, it wasn’t one of ours.”
My grip tightened around the phone. “What do you mean it wasn’t one of ours?”
“The car has no pack registration. No scent trail I recognize either. Whoever took her isn’t one of us or he either knows how to cover his tracks.”
My brows furrowed in confusion at his words. When did she start interacting with outsiders? I had literally made sure she didn’t even interact with pack members, so as not to disgrace me.
My jaw clenched as anger burned through me. I had controlled every aspect of her life for her own good. I had kept her safe. Sheltered. Protected her from the filth of this world and this was how she repaid me?
“Find her,” I said coldly. “I don’t care how long it takes or what route you take. I want her in front of me unharmed with the man who dared to take her away. Do you understand?”
“Yes, alpha,” Kade replied, hanging up the call.
I stood rooted to the spot, breathing heavily, my chest rising and falling heavily. My gaze traveled round the room and my heart twitched slightly.
The house felt emptier and colder than it had ever been before. Her scent which usually lingered in every corner was almost gone.
I should be happy that an undeserving woman like her was now out of my hair but I couldn’t. I tell myself it’s because of my child but deep down I know it was a lie. It unsettled me more than I cared to admit.
I stormed out of the room in anger, my footsteps echoing through the hall.
Selene was mine! And she’ll remain mine forever unless I say otherwise.
“If you think you can run from me,” I muttered darkly. “You are gravely mistaken, Selene.”
