The phone on my desk chimed suddenly, shocking me from the load of paperwork I had been trying to focus on all morning. I gazed at it for a time before responding, the strain in my shoulders increasing at the voice on the other end. "Tyler wants to see you. Now." Melanie’s voice was sharp, little opportunity for pleasantries. My heart fell. There was a problem with something. I could feel it. The anxiety from yesterday still lingered in the air, and whatever this was, it couldn’t be good. Pushing away from my desk, I took a deep breath and stood, smoothing down the front of my dress as if it would somehow prepare me for whatever was ahead.
