“First days are always a bit tricky, aren’t they?” Tyler’s voice sliced through the quiet hallway, the sound of his footsteps echoing slightly as he moved beside Melanie.
His eyes moved across to her quickly, measuring her reaction.
Melanie smiled, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “It’s part of the learning curve, I suppose.”
Tyler nodded, the weight of her presence still resting heavily in his chest.
As they strolled passed the glass-walled offices, he pointed out a few major departments.. finance, marketing, legal.. but his mind was elsewhere.
Every word she uttered felt too measured, too… planned. It was the same sense he got when they first met at the gala, that something wasn’t lining up, though he had no real cause to distrust her.
