I kicked off my shoes, letting them touch the floor as I sunk into the recliner beside the window. I hadn’t bothered to turn on the lights; the dark, gray light seeping through the curtains felt right for the way I felt inside. Today was a day off work, yet all I wanted was to escape from my own thoughts. How did it get to this point? I placed my fingertips to my temples, kneading away the dull ache pounding behind my eyes. Everything felt like everything had spiraled so far out of control, like a domino effect I couldn’t stop. It was almost funny.. how one lousy mistake had affected my entire existence.
