The Heavenly Net and Earthly Web

The editor did not see Wen Ruan's pale face and said to himself, "I heard that the magazine in Lincheng is not doing well and is in desperate need of a shocking figure to take charge. This Mr. Gu, whom we managed to get close to, is said to be your high school classmate, so the interview subject was assigned to you." In the scorching heat of July, the cicadas sang incessantly under the trees, while the dog lay on the concrete, panting heavily with its tongue out, only Wen Ruan was drenched in cold sweat. Wen Ruan knew this was Gu Yuming's net of heaven and earth. But Wen Ruan had no choice; she needed money, and besides, she had worked hard to find this job. She could only surrender and took the appointment letter to the Gu Group building. The receptionist was a beautiful woman with long, wavy hair. She wore a well-fitted uniform and gave Wen Ruan a proper yet distant smile, "Hello." Wen Ruan handed her the interview invitation letter, "Hello, I am a reporter from Viniya Magazine, and I would like to schedule an interview." The receptionist took the appointment letter and replied coldly, "Hello, please wait a moment, I will make a call to inquire." Wen Ruan didn't wait long before the receptionist smiled gently, but her eyes scrutinized her sharply. "Miss Wen, Mr. Gu has asked you to take the first elevator to the top floor; he is waiting for you there." Wen Ruan's heart trembled for a moment. She thanked him and went up to the 32nd floor, looking at the intricately carved wooden door, but her feet felt as if they were weighed down with lead, unable to move. "Come in." A deep voice from inside the room made Wen Ruan a bit nervous. She squeezed the bag in her hand, as if to encourage herself, and pushed the door open. In the center of the room stood a long desk, and behind it was a full-length mirror. The bright daylight poured in, illuminating the room completely and casting a clean and clear light on Gu Yuming's deep and rugged features. As if he were three years ago Wen Ruan was lost in thought when she suddenly heard a sneer, "Don't look at me with those eyes, it's disgusting!" Wen Ruan's heart sank as she remembered how he used to hold her face and say, "Wen Ruan, just look at me like this, and I will never get tired of it for a lifetime." Wen Ruan lowered her eyes, her butterfly-like eyelashes concealing the sadness and despair in her gaze. Gu Yuming continued to mock, seemingly unaware, "What, did Viniya send you here just to be a statue?" Wen Ruan let out a long sigh under his cold mockery, raised her head, and just as she was about to put on her usual gentle smile, she heard a string of silver bell-like laughter, "Brother Gu." The door was opened, and the cold wind rushed in, just like Lin Wanwan leaping into Gu Yuming's embrace, leaving Wen Ruan with a heart full of chill. Lin Wanwan tilted her head back, pouting her cherry lips in a shape of grievance, "Brother Gu, Wanwan has called you many times, why haven't you answered?" Gu Yuming smiled helplessly and calmly pulled her out of his embrace, "We're discussing serious matters." Lin Wanwan followed his gaze and looked over, the deer’s eyes revealing a surprised light, “Wen Ruan Jie?” Wen Ruan only felt the fragrant breeze brushing her face, making her blink continuously. When she came to her senses, Lin Wanwan was already standing in front of her, affectionately and warmly holding her hand, "I was telling you before, let's get together sometime. Why didn't you reply to me?" Wen Ruan looked at her gentle and delicate smile, recalling the scene of their recent embrace, and couldn't help but smile slightly, "I've been a bit busy lately." Lin Wanwan was silent for a moment before smiling and saying, "Does Sister Wen Ruan have a place to stay? Should I ask Brother Gu to prepare one for you?" She called out affectionately, her words laced with a hint of the mistress's tone. Wen Ruan felt a bitterness in her heart, but she raised her head nonchalantly and said, "No need to trouble yourself, I can find it myself." Lin Wanwan's lips curled up high, carrying a mischievous meaning, "Sister Wen Ruan, after knowing Brother Gu for so many years, how could it be a bother?" The word "recognize" was bitten out slowly and heavily by Lin Wanwan, like a hammer hanging heavily on Wen Ruan's heart, smashing her to pieces. She cleared her throat and shook off Lin Wanwan's hand, "I can do it myself." Lin Wanwan stubbornly pulled her again, "How can that be? Sister Wen Ruan, you haven't been here for three years, so you might not know that the real estate in Lin City basically belongs to Brother Gu. As long as Brother Gu gives a word to the people below, won't the house be found?" Wen Ruan looked at Lin Wanwan's charming smile and her fair, tender face, which could only be so due to years of careful nurturing. She held back the dryness in her eyes, her fingertips cool against her palm, and it took a long time for her to break free from the suffocating feeling, finally unfolding a distant yet polite smile, "No need to trouble yourself." "It's not a big deal." Gu Yuming stepped forward, his slender fingertips gliding across the table, "If you ask me, I will help you."
