“I still think this is a bad idea,” Bertram said. They were in Lily’s car, a small hatchback that made Bertram wish his legs had a second set of knees so he could bend them twice. Other than that, it was rather pleasant. The car smelled of a vanilla air freshener and the coffee she seemed to perpetually have in the cup holder. He liked it almost as much as when she smiled. But she wasn’t smiling now; her face was deadly serious as she stared at the building’s parking exit just down the block from them. Every time a car left the garage, she looked through them to check the license plate.
