Louise DelaneyLouise hadn’t intended to tell Kate just how afraid she was. But things were becoming more obvious—both to her and everyone around her. She was a shadow of her former self.
Madison handed her a cup of tea. “Here you go, Mom,” she said. “Can I get you anything else?”
“There’s something I need to tell you,” she looked up into her daughter’s eyes, “before my mind goes completely.”
“What is it?” Madison asked.
Madison was always pragmatic. Never one to show her true feelings. I did that, thought Louise. It’s my fault she’s that way. Louise tightened her grip on the cup as she felt her hands tremble. “I should have tried harder, Maddie.” She hadn’t called her that since Madison was ten or eleven years old. “I should have been there for you.”
