Autumn 1097 SR Danica pushed past the fish stalls and fishing boats to the bigger vessels, ranging from large, two-masted cogs to old-fashioned knarrs. Most were merchants, with wide beams and decks crammed with barrels and sacks, but a few of the smaller ones looked, to her eyes, like they might make nimble sailers. She made her way onto the jetty, where even more ships were moored. One, in particular, caught her attention: a massive cog with three sails, possibly the largest she had ever seen. Men swarmed the deck, lifting crates and barrels from its hold as dozens of others carried sacks ashore across their shoulders. A shout drew her attention.
