A loud scream tore through the apartment and Nikki shot out of bed, her feet thudding as they hit the hardwood floor. Heart racing, Nikki was met with silence until another shrill cry echoed in the quiet space. Bounding into the hall, she switched the lights on, listening for another noise. The wind wailed against the windows in her living room, the sound trailing down the hall until it was muted by another scream. She ran to the spare room, the dark form on the bed thrashing and unintelligible noises rising from the mass. Nikki flipped on the light just as Brynn fell to the floor.
