How Did I End Up in My Room?

1099 Words
As a lawyer, this was the first time Audrey had been rendered speechless. Fortunately, Kylee had let that go. Otherwise, she would have to flush herself down a plug hole out of embarrassment. Kylee and Bryson were both good-mannered, and the way they ate was extremely elegant. However, Kylee kept putting food into Audrey's bowl, which she could not reject at all. She had to finish them all for the sake of politeness. As a result, she became too full to have one more bite. After dinner, Kylee showed Audrey around the garden. And then, they came to the movie room to watch a movie. Bryson didn't see Kylee and Audrey when he came out from the gym. "Where is my grandma and Audrey?" he asked the servant. "They're in the movie room." Bryson walked towards there. In the movie room, Kylee and Audrey were leaning against each other on the sofa, eyes on the huge screen. Their intimacy somehow brought some delight to Bryson. In the movie, the antagonist stabbed a knife into the protagonist's stomach. The two of them accused the antagonist indignantly. "How could he? He killed a guy who just hurt him by accident!" protested Kylee. "He always kills in the most brutal way. For an atrocious person like him, the court will definitely sentence him to death!" said Audrey. Bryson couldn't take it anymore. "This movie is bullshit." Kylee and Audrey stared at him. "First, there's something wrong with the blood color. It is obviously chicken blood. Second, the spot where the knife stabbed is not fatal. Third, the dead man is still breathing." Kylee and Audrey were brought up short. Audrey finally understood why Kylee said she hated watching TV with Bryson. A stuffy and conventional person will not be popular in this society. They turned a deaf ear to what Bryson said and continued their discussion on the plot. Bryson had no choice but to give up. ... The next day, Audrey got up early in the morning, took a taxi home to get changed, and then went to the law firm. On the way to the law firm, her phone rang. She saw the number was the Cordova Mansion's landline. The corner of her mouth turned up as she answered the phone. "Hello, Granny." After spending only a day with Kylee, Audrey liked this loving old lady very much though she looked solemn and arrogant on the outside. "Girl, why did you leave without a notice?" "I have thought of that, but you were still asleep when I left. So I left a note instead." "What kind of company is that? Why is it torturing you like this? No, I'll call your brother later and help you change a job." Audrey didn't know how to comfort her. "Granny, haven't you promised yesterday that you will let me handle my work alone? Just relax. I won't wear myself out," Audrey promised. Kylee pondered for a moment and agreed, "Alright then, where are you now?" "I'm on my way to the company." "Stay safe." "Got it." Something suddenly occurred to Audrey, "By the way, Granny, I remember that I fell asleep last night in the middle of the movie. How did I end up in my room?" This morning, she found herself on a bed when she woke up. "Oh, Bryson carried you back to your room," replied Kylee airily. Audrey was brought up short. Maybe Kylee had asked Bryson to do that. Besides, Bryson was a decent man. He was unlikely to cross the line. Audrey calmed down at the thought of it. ... At the Square Law Firm.... Freddy introduced Audrey to everyone first thing in the morning and asked the Ms. Liana to hand over the case to her. Soon, Liana walked over in high heels and threw a heavy folder on the table in front of Audrey. "This is the case file." And then, Liana turned around and left just like that. Arrogance was written all over her face. She left so soon that Audrey didn't even have the time to say thank you. Her hostility was obvious. Audrey shrugged, opened the folder, and checked files. It was a simple civil case. The East Side International Community developed by the Four Seasons Group's East Side Branch was contracted to the QK Architects. But the former delayed the payment for the project for various reasons such as the defective construction. For projects like this, architecture firms had to cover the costs themselves before getting paid. But then it snowballed into something that QK could not afford. So the company filed a lawsuit against the Four Seasons Group's East Side Branch. Audrey had learned about this case before. All the relevant information was similar to what she had known. After some searching, she found a name. Jasmine Levy. Audrey texted Jasmine's ID to someone called "Fleur" on her phone. "Help me find out her location and her phone number." Soon, Fleur replied. "Coordinates—(probably) Planning Department, 16/F, the Cordova Group Headquarters, 139******" The Cordova Group? How could it be the Cordova Group? Audrey gave her a call. The tone sounded gentle, "Hello? May I ask who I am talking to? " "I'm a lawyer from the Square Law Firm. My name's Koch." "Lawyer?" she suddenly became vigilant, "What can I do for you?" "It's about the dispute between the QK Architects And Four Seasons Group...." Before she could finish her sentence, Jasmine hung up the phone. Audrey frowned. It seemed that she had to pay a visit to the Cordova Group. She went to the pantry before leaving. Inside the pantry, Liana was talking to another lawyer. "I'm really pissed off. My case is almost done. Although I can't win, I can still obtain the best interests for the QK Architects. How can that woman come out of nowhere and take it from me?" "That case of yours is big, with a potentially high payment. Why would Mr. Steele hand it to her?" "Isn't it obvious? She's pretty," Liana mocked. "Maybe you are right. All she needs to do is flirt with Mr. Steele and he will definitely...." Seeing that Liana looked worse, the lawyer stopped. "Liana, take it easy. I think that charmer is too young for a case like that. When she is defeated, you'll see." "I think so." Audrey walked in with her teacup, fixed herself a cup of tea, and walked out. Liana stared as she left. "What is she so smug about? When she loses the case, I'll ask Mr. Steele to cast her out."
