Chapter 2

726 Words
Catherine’s pov Everything after that feels like a blur. I move quickly, almost mechanically. The robe comes off and I wore a dress, something sleek, fitted, simple enough not to draw attention but polished enough to belong in his world. My hands work faster than my thoughts, brushing, pinning, adjusting. I don’t give myself time to second-guess. If I do, I might stop and I can’t stop, Not now. I grab my keys, my phone, and head for the door, my heels clicking sharply against the floor with every step. The hallway outside is quiet, the kind of quiet that feels too aware of itself. I press the elevator button, the doors open with a soft ding and I step in. “Ground floor,” I say, even though I’m the only one inside. The ride down feels longer than it should. My reflection in the elevator mirror looks just as composed as before, but my eyes give me away. When the doors finally open, I walk out quickly, not stopping, not hesitating. The night air hits me the moment I step outside, cool against my skin. I head straight for my car. The drive is quiet, but my mind isn’t. Every possibility runs through my head. “It’s probably nothing,” I say at one point, gripping the steering wheel tighter. “Maybe it’s a surprise,” I add, though that sounds even less convincing. A surprise meeting? The night before our wedding? I shake my head slightly. No. Something about this feels off. Every red light feels like it’s holding me back on purpose. Every passing car feels too slow, too loud, too present. My fingers tighten around the wheel again. “Just get there,” I mutter. When the building finally comes into view, tall and glass-covered, reflecting the city lights, my chest tightens again. I pull into the parking lot, turn off the engine and I sit there for a second. “You’re fine,” I tell myself quietly. But I’m not, I step out anyway. My heels click against the pavement as I walk toward the entrance, each step louder than the last in my ears. The glass doors reflect me again. Completely unaware of what I’m about to walk into, i push them open. Inside, the building is mostly dark. Only a few lights are on, casting long shadows across the floor. I move carefully, instinctively quieter now. “Hello?” I call softly. No answer, but then… A sound. I freeze. It’s faint at first, but unmistakable Voices, Low and Muffled. And then… A soft sound that makes my stomach twist. A moan. I blink, my body going completely still. “No…” I whisper under my breath. My heart starts pounding now, loud enough that I’m sure it’s echoing through the hallway. I take a step forward, then another… The sounds get clearer and more distinct. And then I hear it. Andria s voice , I know it instantly. My chest tightens so sharply it almost hurts. “Oh my God…” I breathe. My hands shake slightly as I pull out my phone. “Okay… okay,” I whisper, trying to steady myself. If this is what I think it is… I need proof and I press record. My steps are slower now, more careful as I move toward the source of the sound. The door ahead is slightly open, Light spills out into the hallway and voices are clearer now. Intimate. My stomach twists again. As i reach the door, my hand hovers near it, trembling just slightly. “Just… look,” I whisper to myself. And then I push it open, What I see… I stop completely . My brain doesn’t catch up to my eyes, not immediately, because this… This isn’t what I expected at all. Adrian is there but he’s not alone. My breath catches. My vision blurs for a second before snapping back into focus. “No…” I whisper. Because standing there with him… in an intimate position stacked naked My throat tightens painfully, My phone lowers slightly in my hand. Everything in my head feels loud and empty at the same time. This doesn’t make sense, none of it does. I take a step forward without realizing it. My voice comes out before I can stop it “ Dad?”
