Chapter 13 POV Charlie

2803 Words
POV Charlie I went to Bali for a friends wedding. I sat there utterly bored as they took their vows. I was the only single person there and I felt like all of the couples felt sorry for me. I was supposed to go with my girlfriend Molly but we had split up the month before because we weren’t compatible. Although we agreed to remain friends I didn’t fancy taking her with me on such a long trip because she could be really annoying. The woman performing the ceremony said “this couple were not only together in this life but that they have been together in their past life, they have a deep bond that will continue to draw them to each other in every one of their lives and they are two halves and together they are complete” I never believed in soul mates and I thought it was total crap but this women was so convincing that I couldn’t help but sit up and listen to her. Someone had gave me a book on past lives before and it had interested me but now being in such a spiritual country had made me really think about what happens to all of us when we die. I had spent the past 20 years going from one long term relationship to another but none of those women were my soul mate. Don’t get me wrong they were all nice women and there was never any dramatic endings to the relationships, in fact I had remained friends with all of them. My best friend thought it was weird and he said that he thought it was because I would settle for any one and he was right but now I wanted to be with the love of my life and I didn’t want to settle for any thing less. After the wedding ceremony there was a dinner and then I went back to my hotel room on my own. I sat on the bed and I couldn’t help but think about Amelia. Although I hardly knew her, I had felt such a strong attraction to her that I would often think of her from time to time. I had cut my arm and went to hospital and she was teaching young doctors how to do stitches. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and I wanted her immediately but I asked her out and she had said no because she was grieving her dead husband and I had to respect that, but she was my dream woman and no other girl I dated after meeting her came close to that immediate feeling I had about her. A few days after the wedding and it was time to get back to work. I had business in London but I had seen an amazing house online in Spain and I thought that it was about time that I got myself a summer home in the sun. I cancelled my flight to London and rebooked a flight to Spain. I got to the airport late because there was a mix up with the time. I dashed through the airport and just got to the terminal in time before the doors closed. The flight attendant looked pissed at me but when she took my ticket and she seen that it was first class she immediately changed her attitude. There had only been one seat left and I was annoyed that it wasn’t a window seat. I followed her along the aisle and I groaned when I seen that it was rows of two seats together instead of a the new modern kind of first class with the sectioned off areas that turn into full beds. I wondered who I was sitting next to and if they wanted to chat the whole time because it was a 22 hour flight and I wanted to catch up with my emails for work and get some sleep. The flight attendant pointed to my seat and I gave her a polite smile but I was dreading making small talk with the person that was sitting next to me. I looked down at the seat and she was staring out of the window. She was wearing a tight red dress and killer heels and she had her long dark hair over one shoulder. I couldn’t believe my luck but when she looked up at me she said “hello stranger” and she gave me the biggest smile. I had always loved her cute dimples and her beautiful brown eyes. I couldn’t believe that it was her. “Amelia” I said and she seemed just as shocked to see me as I was to see her. “This is a nice surprise” she said and I could tell that she was genuinely pleased to see me. “Would you like this seat? I like to be to the outside” this woman was perfect from the top of her head to the tip of her toes. “I would love the window seat, but only if you’re sure” she got up and I wasn’t sure if she was going to hug me because she seemed really happy. “I’m so glad that it’s you because I was dreading sitting next to some weirdo.” I sat down but I couldn’t keep the stupid big smile off my face. “What are the chances of us sitting next to each other?” I said and I knew I was being cheesy which was really out of character for me. If one of the people that worked for me knew that I was acting like such soppy sod they would lose all respect for me. “This is such a coincidence” she said with a chuckle but all I could think about was the words from the wedding in Bali ‘they have a deep bond that draw them to each other’ Meeting her there like this had to mean something because there was no such thing as a coincidence “well I think it was meant to be. How are you? You look fantastic” she was tanned from being in Bali and she looked relaxed and happy. “Thank you. I’m a lot better than I was the last time I seen you” I thought back to when I had called her to ask her out for a date and she had hung up on me, then I went to the hospital where she worked and I asked her out again and she explained that she had just lost her husband and that she wasn’t ready. She looked guilty just by speaking to me about a date and she seemed so broken hearted but now she seemed lighter and I wondered if she had moved on. “What were you doing in Bali?” I asked and I was fishing to see if she was there with a boyfriend. “I was volunteering there in one of the local hospitals, I was training some of the young student doctors. I did it last year in Africa as well, it feels very rewarding but now I’m exhausted.” Not only was she beautiful but she had a huge heart and she was intelligent and sweet and I really admired her. “You’re such a good person.. let’s get pissed” I said and she laughed hysterically “yeah alright” As we took off I had forgot that I was frightened of flying because I was too busy staring into her eyes as she told me about her experiences in Bali. She spoke with such passion and I was astounded by how dedicated she was to her work. We shared a few drinks and she laughed at all my s**t jokes and she made me feel like I was the funniest guy in the world. I told her that I was only on the flight because of a last minute decision to view a house in Spain. Amelia said that she was glad that I had changed my flight because she was having a great time. She said that she wasn’t able to get a flight to London so she was having to go home via Spain and I know it sounds crazy but I felt like we were supposed to be there together. We landed after a couple of hours for the plane to refuel and we went into the airport bar and had a couple of shots and although I was beginning to feel a little drunk she seemed fine. She gently stroked my arm and I thought that she was coming on to me but then I realised she was touching the scar on my arm where she had gave me stitches when I first met her. “I told you it wouldn’t scar too bad” she said and I had often thought about that day because meeting her was like a bolt of lightning in my life. She had been so lovely and I had been desperate to see her again but it hadn’t worked out and now she was sitting in front of me on the other side of the world and I knew that it was fate that had brought her back into my life. When we got back on board the plane we were still chatting and laughing and I felt like we were on one long, amazing date. It felt good getting to know her and I felt like I could be open with her too. I told her about going to my friends wedding and how I had felt a bit lonely because I was on my own surrounded by happy couples. She said that she understood how I felt and that she was a bit lonely too. The flight attendant announced that they would be lowering the lights as they passed out pillows and blankets. All of the other passengers around us put back their seats into a sleeping position and she said she was going to change into her comfy cloths. When she came back she had her hair up in a high ponytail, a tight T-shirt and leggings and a pair of comfy slippers. Her body was outstanding and although I always liked her all dressed up I think I preferred her more relaxed. I thought back to that day in the hospital, she was wearing a tight black dress and heels and a white doctors coat and I thought she was the sexiest woman I had ever seen. “You look so tiny without your high heels on” I said and she slapped my arm as she sat down next to me. She adjusted her seat into the sleeping possession, and so did I. We were lying down, and she pulled the blanket over herself. “ I am absolutely exhausted, but thank you so much for keeping me entertained today.” She lay back and stretched and I couldn’t help but glance at her t**s in her tight T-shirt. She was absolutely gorgeous, and I was desperate to get my hands on her. She let out a huge yawn and the guy sitting across from us lowered his eye mask and gave us both a dirty look. We looked at each other and laughed. “we better keep it down. I don’t want to piss anyone off” she said and I liked how considerate she was to other people. We sat close and started to whisper. I could hear people around us gently snoring but I didn’t want to sleep. I wanted to stay up all night talking to her. The time I spoke with her on that plane was probably the happiest I’d been in a long time. After a while she started to get tired and she was blinking her eyes to stay awake. Her gorgeous long lashes made her eyes even more beautiful “you should get some sleep.” I said as I stroked a stray hair off of her face. “ yeah I think you’re right.” She closed her eyes, and I couldn’t help but lean forward and kiss her on the lips. I was surprised when she kissed me back. She was so gentle and I wished that we were alone instead of surrounded by people. She pulled away and smiled at me and snuggled into my side then she pulled her blanket up to cover the both of us. Within 10 minutes she was asleep and I felt myself dozing off too but I fought back to stay awake because I didn’t want to miss a moment of being with her, I watched her sleep and she was beautiful. After an hour I was gently stroking her face as she slept when suddenly the whole plane started to shake. All of the other passengers started to wake up and the fasten seat belt sign came on. I had never been a good flyer but this was something else. Amelia was still sleeping when a woman behind us started to scream. Amelia sat up straight and looked around and it took her a second to remember where she was then she turned to me and said “are you ok, you look really pale?” Everyone around us were panicking as the plane shook violently but she just took my hand and said “just breath” she took in a deep breath and I followed what she was doing. The guy across from us started to shout “what the hell is happening?” And she turned to him and told him to calm down and that he was making this worse. The guy had tears in his eyes and she leaned over to him and said “it’s only turbulence, take it easy, your going to be fine” he just closed his eyes tight and it was horrible to see someone that scared. She looked at me and she was still holding my hand “tell me about the day we met? Do you remember that?” She said with a smile and she was so calm that it was calming me down too. “You walked in to the hospital room surrounded by student doctors and I fancied you right away” I said as the lights started to flicker “she stroked my arm “thanks for that, I think you’re so handsome” I felt like I was falling to my death and falling in love all at the same time. “Tell me about your family” she asked and I told her about my mum and dad and sister and her kids and I realised that I would probably never see them again and I started to panic again. “Tell me about your friend, you know the one that cut your arm that day” I took a deep breath “we’ve been friends since nursery school. He’s like a brother to me. He’s a great guy, I think you would like him” I could feel my legs beginning to tremble and I could hear a woman behind me crying and praying and I couldn’t believe that this was happening “look at me!” She demanded and I finally focused on her “this is going to pass” she said and she loosened the top buttons on my shirt. She rubbed my arm “take deep breaths” she said with a smile. I could feel sweat forming on my forehead when the lights came back on and the plane stopped shacking. I was breathless and I looked at her and she wasn’t effected in any way and I knew it was probably because she was a surgeon and she worked in emergency situations. The pilot made an announcement to say that there was a technical problem but that it was under control. “See I told you that you would be fine” she said with a huge smile and I’d had enough, if this wasn’t a sign that life was too short then I don’t know what is. I grabbed her beautiful face and kissed her passionately on the mouth and I didn’t want to let her go. Then a flight attendant shouted “is there a doctor on the flight?” and I pulled away, she stared at me for a moment and then she got up and walked over. A woman had banged her head and Amelia cleaned up her wound and sat with her for a while. When she came back she said “let’s get another drink” and I couldn’t help but smile because I had never known anyone like her before.
