Chapter three

1351 Words
The next day at school, I and Elena had to go separate ways because we didn't have lectures together. “Meet you at the cafeteria during lunch break, Em,” she said, rushing to class as the bell rang. While i headed to my lecture room, i got in and, lo and behold, I had the class with “Max and Damon,” i felt a rush of excitement at the sight of Max, My heart beating rapidly, the smell of wet soil and dried wood enveloping my nostrils and giving me that comfort i felt whenever he was near. I sat down on the only available seat, which was in front of Max again. “Hey Emily,” greeted Damon while giving me a warm smile. “Hey Damon,” I replied, smiling back at him, which made Max clear his throat intentionally after seeing the exchange between us, earning him a knowing smirk from Damon, which made me give them both a weird look at their exchange. “Well, hey princess,” said Max, ‘ “Hey Max,” I replied dryly, although my heart was beating rapidly at just the sound of his voice. “Are you not happy to see me princess?” asked Max, smiling. ”If only you knew,” I mumbled, causing his smile to grow wilder. Thankfully, at that moment, the teacher entered. As the class continued, I found it hard to concentrate. My mind kept wandering back to Max's dazzling smile and the way his green eyes seemed to hold a hidden depth of emotion. I kept wondering why my heart kept skipping whenever he was around. After the class, I quickly rushed to meet Elena at the school cafeteria. Elena was already there with Ethan. Apparently they had the same class. As if on queue, Max and Damon walked in and sat on the table too. “So, we are like a group now. Why is she walking towards us?” said Elena, with disgust. Which made me turn around to see none other than Regina, the most popular girl in school, who had literally slept with most of the boys on the football team and following her was her two minions. “Hey,” she said, trying to sound sexy as she got to the table with her eyes fixed on Max looking at him like he was a prey she was about to devour. “Hey,” replied Elena with mockery evident in her voice, which earned us a disgusting look from Regina. “I am Regina,” she said, looking at them and completely ignoring i and Elena, “I heard you guys just resumed and wanted to introduce myself,” she continued. “Thanks,” said Damon “Well, I am organising a party at my house tonight and you guys are invited, take it as a welcome party,” she said, waiting for their response. “Alright, but we don’t know where you stay,” Damon replied, stating the obvious. “She knows,” she said, pointing at Elena, “they can both come too,’ she continued like she was doing us a favour. “No, thanks,” I replied, to which Max chuckled, earning me a glare from Regina. If looks could kill, I would be 7ft under by now. “Anyway, see you guys there, especially you, hot stuff,” she said, looking at Max as she walked away, which irritated me intensely. “Bro, that girl is totally into you,” Damon said to Max, laughing, which made me look at Max to already see him staring at me, like he was expecting me to react to what Damon said. “Whatever, man,” he said, sounding annoyed. Which made me wonder what annoyed him so much, or is it just the thought of Regina wanting him. Lunch came to an end and we all headed to our separate classes. I had AP biology and didn’t even notice that someone entered the classroom immediately after I did, ”hey princess mind if i sit next to you,” said Max, already occupying the seat by my side before I could even answer. “Why bother asking,” I said, to which he just smirked, “how come you are in all my classes,” i asked realising that we have been in fact attending all my lectures together. “Cause i told them to align my lectures with yours,” he said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “What?” i said in total shock, “yo chill, I am just kidding, it’s just a coincidence,” he said after seeing the look on my face, but something in my guts kept telling me it wasn’t. The rest of the class just involved me catching Max looking at me and me getting flustered. After the bell rang, I quickly packed my things to go to my locker where Elena would be waiting for me by now, but before i could, Max stopped me by holding my arm, causing my body to tingle in a good way due to the physical contact, which i am sure he also felt due to the way his eyes darkened, making me to almost ask why his eyes does that, but almost immediately his eyes returned to it’s normal colour making me question if i imagined it. “We are going the same way, why are you rushing,” He said, letting go of my arm, which instantly made me feel empty. “Oh, I guess I forgot,” I said, releasing an awkward laugh as we walked towards my locker. “So, you are really not going to the party?” he asked, looking at me like he was trying to read me, “nah, not really my type of gathering,” i replied, avoiding his eyes. “If it isn’t the lovebirds,” said Damon, interrupting our conversation, “you guys are so cute together,” added Elena, while Ethan just kept laughing, prolly at my shocked reaction, expecting Max to at least deny it, just for me to see him trying to hide his smile. “You guys are sick for real, I and Max are nothing like that,” I said, defending myself. “Alright Em, let’s go home,” said Elena in between laughter, “see you guys before the party,” she said, waving at the guys and i also waved them bye. When we got home, nobody was home as the door was locked. They were probably still at work, so we used the spare key. Immediately I got in, I went straight to my room to change into comfy clothes and I immediately slept off. “EM, WAKE UP!” I heard Elena screaming. I stood up hurriedly to check what was wrong, then came face to face with Elena. “What is the matter, why are you screaming?” I asked, “why am I screaming? Look at the time, it’s after six,” she replied, sounding incredulous, ”so?” I asked, genuinely confused. “The party Em, it’s by 8pm and the guys will be here by 7:30 and it is 6:10 and we have not even started getting ready,” she said with a bit of annoyance, “but i am not going to the party,” i said. “what! So you are really going to leave me all alone with the guys?” she asked, as if trying to understand. “Well, when you put it that way it sounds bad, but you know i don’t go for parties to El,” I replied. “Please, i can’t go alone,” she said, in a way i couldn’t say no to her, “fine, i’ll go” i said, sounding defeated. “Thank you,” she squealed, which made me laugh. “Now go and shower while I pick out outfits for us,” she ordered, “okay mum,” I jokingly replied, earning a playful glare from her.
