Chapter 10 The bleary light of morning woke me – dim, I’m sure, but blinding to my sleep-drunk eyes. Crusted over with sleep, they ached when I opened them. Dammit. I’d left the window blind open when I fell asleep the night before on the plane. I’d been drunk and amused, high on the pre-flight airport drama. Now, I was raw-eyed and exhausted. The cabin lights were still off, but I could see the stewardesses puttering around in the kitchenette, readying the coffee and tea for service. I knew we must be close to landing. Any moment, the pilot would raise the lights and announce our imminent descent, but for now, the plane was quiet.
