Chapter 8 The morning light felt like burning, an annoying buzz of searing heat that eventually made it through the layers of sleep encrusted over my eyes. I’d closed out the bar with Jax and Jody, playing drinking games until dawn, avoiding going home to an empty bed. Since I’d gotten Keeta, I could count the number of nights I’d slept without her nearby on one hand. I hadn’t enjoyed any of them. At least this time I had been able to stumble into bed and pass out without missing her too terribly. Thank God, Jax had insisted on driving me home in the van, taking a cab home after he dropped me off. For all his care-free ways, he was a good friend. I rubbed a hand over my eyes and stretched, realizing I wasn’t just hungover. I was hungry. Dammit! Kate’s brunch. What time was it, anyway?
