Chapter 26 BEFORE KRISTEN LEFT on Sunday, we walked over to Marissa's parents' house and she reluctantly came out to meet us. “I don't know why I'm doing this,” she said. “I am so mad at you, Poppy.” It was Kristen who spoke up, saying Marissa had no cause for concern, that I'd done nothing wrong—that she'd tried to seduce me but I didn't go for it because I didn't want to put this new relationship in jeopardy. Marissa said, “Okay,” and went back into the house. I thought I'd lost her forever. But when I got home from driving Kristen to the airport, there was Marissa, sitting on my doorstep.
