Chapter 31 Etan got out of bed slowly, doing his best not to wake Alex. All of the Witnesses seemed to sleep lightly, but he had to try. The fear of his husband getting too run down and getting sick again never quite left him. He was rarely awake first, and the children seemed aware of that fact. Testing his ability to keep up with them and keep them quiet left him wondering if they did the same to Alex. Caela answered him before he asked. “They’re always like that, Daddy E,” she said, shaking her head. At eight, Caela was fully aware of being the oldest of all of them.
