CHAPTER FIVE Whatever it was that had awakened her, she wasn't aware of. Probably it was the crisp, cool air blowing gently through the window at the foot of the bed, catching at the fragile curtains and billowing them lazily back and forth. Her hand crept from beneath the shelter of the light blanket and automatically searched for the comforter at the foot of the bed. However, it managed to elude her and reluctantly she became wide awake. Shivering slightly, the young girl was forced to clear her mind of the silvery cobwebs of sleep. Christy's eyes fluttered open, irritated that she had to look for the thick blanket to gain its added warmth. Then, like the moon coming brilliantly into view as a drifting bank of clouds fled by, reality broke over the girl. Her world came back into focus.
