Violet had entered the realm of peaceful sleep by the time Auriele returned to her attic bedroom. A small smile touched her lips when she saw Violet sleeping on her left side, with both her hands under her cheek and her lips parted slightly.
Auriele caressed her hair and then pushed the blanket away from her body given it was scorching hot. She gazed around, feeling as if the room was boiling. It had grown somewhat hotter after it rained in the afternoon.
