CHAPTER SIXTEEN
BRITA AND PERCY ENTERED the State Police post in Bloomington, Indiana and showed the receptionist her badge and the article Nita had given her about the body the police found not far from the ranch. “I’d like to speak to the trooper in charge of investigating this case please.”
The receptionist glanced at the paper. “Oh, that was Detective Sergeant Parkins. Let me see if he’s in the building. Please have a seat, Detective.”
A few minutes later a squarely-made trooper with a flattop came through a door which Brita assumed lead to the offices at the back of the facility. Instead of the requisite navy-blue shirt and lighter blue pants with a vertical navy stripe, Parkins was dressed in jeans and a long-sleeved polo shirt. He carried his Glock 17 in a shoulder holster.
