"HE DID WHAT?" Safiya yelled into the phone, making Salma move the phone away from her ear. That was one thing she hated about her sister: her tendency to suddenly forget that people don't like noise.
"What sort of monster does that?" she yelled again, making Salma groan in annoyance. Why couldn't Safiya learn to keep her voice down? She wasn't in the mood to be irritated by her yelling.
"Wallahi ya bani mamaki (He seriously surprised me)." Salma said, squeezing her duvet. She was curled up in her bed, staring out of the window at the crescent moon. A few stars were beginning to appear in the night sky, twinkling just outside her window.
"Gaskiya bashi da hankali (He's really insane)." Safiya said, shaking her head. "But did he say anything to you?"
