Rukayyah sat on the edge of Salma's bed, reciting Suratul Yasin quietly. Occasionally, she'd turn to look at Salma, but her eyes were mostly fixed on the Qur'an she was holding. Hajiya Rahama had gone home to freshen up, leaving Rukayyah with her. Rukayyah finished reciting the chapter, closing the Qur'an on the table beside Salma. She whispered a few supplications over Salma's body, squeezing her hand gently before she stood up and headed for the bathroom. She performed her wudu and stepped out of the bathroom, ready to start her Zuhr prayer. As she started praying, Rukayyah's back was turned to Salma.
