Chapter 9 Dispute

1091 Words
After Su Yu killed the last green-skinned monster, his wooden stick was covered in green goo. Turning around, he saw that all the green-skinned monsters had been defeated, while only four of their group had died, and seven or eight others were injured and tending to their wounds. Su Yu had taken down seven green-skinned monsters by himself, an impressive feat that caught everyone's attention. Even Ning Yan, who had almost never interacted with Su Yu before, couldn't help but give him a glance. "Wow..." Zhang Zhongmou sat on the ground, pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, and took a deep drag with his hand, still stained with green goo. Lying in front of him was a green-skinned monster with its head almost smashed in, a wooden stick still lodged in its skull. The stick belonged to Zhang Zhongmou, indicating that he had also taken down a green-skinned monster. "Hey, brother, want a smoke?" Zhang Zhongmou exhaled a puff of smoke and called out to Su Yu. Su Yu walked over slowly and shook his head. Although he had just killed seven green-skinned monsters, making his power even stronger—so much so that his other injuries were healing faster—Su Yu felt no excitement. Four more people had just died, and the image of the familiar gym teacher dying so horribly in front of him left Su Yu deeply unsettled. "What should we do with their bodies?" A tall, burly student with a buzz cut took a sip of water from his backpack, wiped his mouth, and asked. The battle had been brief, but despite their victory, many had suffered injuries. They were now taking a break to bandage wounds and rest. A few of them, who had just killed their first green-skinned monster and gained supernatural powers, were still in shock, feeling the new energy coursing through their bodies. A man in his thirties wearing a security uniform and holding a baton looked solemnly at the sky. He responded, "In a place like this, no one knows what will happen next. Our top priority is to find food and locate the rescue team. Time is of the essence, and we can't afford to spend it on dealing with the bodies… We'll have to leave them here." Qin Jiagui, who had been badly injured in the fight, was having his wounds treated by another student. Hearing the security guard's words, he looked up and said, "That's not right. If we leave them here, they'll be eaten by other green-skinned monsters. We can't just leave them like that!" He suddenly clenched his fists and stood up. The security guard frowned slightly and said, "Do you expect us to dig a grave for them? Remember, we only have two days' worth of food. We don't have time to deal with these bodies…" Qin Jiagui glared at him and said, "Have you considered that soon it might be you or me lying dead here? Do you want your body to be eaten by those monsters?" The security guard flared up in anger and shouted, "What did you say? Are you cursing me?" He gripped his baton tightly. As tension escalated between the two, everyone's attention turned to them. Zhang Zhongmou quickly stood up to intervene, forcing a laugh. "How about a cigarette? No need to fight." The security guard coldly pushed Zhang Zhongmou's hand away and stared at Qin Jiagui, who stood his ground. "Kid, didn't your parents teach you to respect your elders? Everything I'm doing is for the good of everyone. Remember, there are over a thousand people at the school waiting for our news. Should we waste time on something like this?" Qin Jiagui replied sternly, "If you don't respect the dead, why should I respect you?" "You—" The security guard shouted, ready to strike. Seeing the situation escalating, Su Yu, who had been absent-mindedly playing with his hair, quickly stepped between them. Su Yu's sudden presence made the security guard instinctively pause. His baton stopped mid-air. Since the chaos began, Su Yu's actions had been so impressive that everyone, including the security guard, had developed a deep, unspoken respect for him. "I'm not good with words, but… we're all here for the same reason, as a team. You both make valid points. The ground here is very hard, and we don't have the tools to dig a large pit. It would take us half a day, and we don't have that kind of time. How about…" Su Yu paused, running his fingers through his hair before continuing, "We could move the bodies up into the trees. That way, the green-skinned monsters won't be able to reach them, and we can bury them properly once we find the rescue team." "As long as it doesn't take too much time, I don't have any objections," the security guard agreed, realizing that moving the bodies to the trees wouldn't take long. Qin Jiagui, too, knew that Su Yu was right. Without proper digging tools, it would take them half a day to dig a pit large enough to bury several bodies, and they only had two days' worth of time. With most of the morning already gone, time was running out. Su Yu's plan was set in motion. Zhang Zhongmou, Qin Jiagui, and the others began lifting the bodies, intending to place them on the large tree branches to keep them safe from other monsters. "I'll help," offered the tall, burly student with the buzz cut. When Zhang Zhongmou asked his name, he introduced himself as Zhao Shichang, a senior student a year ahead of them. "Once the bodies are placed, we should move on," the security guard added. The scent of blood was strong here, and he didn't want to linger any longer. The four bodies were quickly placed on the dense branches of the towering trees, and Zhang Zhongmou leapt down from the tree. "Alright, let's get moving," the security guard urged, seeing himself as the leader of the group. Zhang Zhongmou gave him a sidelong glance, clearly unimpressed. Lazily, he asked, "Is everyone ready to go?" The security guard glared at him, about to say something when he sensed something. He looked in another direction, but Su Yu was already one step ahead, gripping his wooden stick and standing up. A faint rustling came from a nearby thicket, drawing everyone's attention. They watched as the thicket parted, and a green-skinned monster emerged. But unlike the ones they had been fighting, this green-skinned monster was different.
