Chapter 4 The Sky Changed

1591 Words
After killing four green-skinned monsters, Su Yu felt utterly drained. Although his left arm was surging with strange energy, the rest of his body was in such intense pain that he almost lost all sensation. Apart from his left arm, Su Yu could barely feel the rest of his body. Collapsing to the ground, he heard heavy breathing. Struggling to lift his head, he saw Qin Jia Gui gripping a wooden stick with both hands, drenched in sweat. On the ground before him lay the corpse of a green-skinned monster with its brains smashed in. This was the last green-skinned monster. Su Yu had just swung it away with a heavy blow, and Qin Jia Gui, who had picked up a wooden stick earlier, seized the opportunity to frantically smash its head, finally taking it down. At this moment, Qin Jia Gui was staring blankly at his right hand. On the back of his right hand, something unusual had appeared. Unlike Su Yu's protruding black scales, it was a small patch of dark, hard plates, resembling a sudden black mole. When touched, it was cold as steel. When he relaxed his hand, the anomaly disappeared. Su Yu glanced gratefully at Qin Jia Gui. If it weren't for him killing the last green-skinned monster, Su Yu would have likely perished after killing the first four. The classroom was now left with only Su Yu, collapsed on the ground; Qin Jia Gui, standing; Su Yu's sister, Su Yu, who had just gotten up; and the class president, Lei Rui, standing stunned by the door. The rest of the room was in shambles. "Su Yu—" Su Yu crawled up and rushed over, her heart trembling with fear at Su Yu's miserable condition. She asked, her voice shaking, "Su... Su Yu, are you okay?" Su Yu barely lifted his head, looking at the five dead green-skinned monsters before him, feeling like he had just awoken from a terrible dream. With a bitter smile, he said, "I can't move... the pain... it's making me faint. But Su Yu, I never thought... you'd care so much about me. Do you like me? If you do, just say it..." Su Yu was stunned for a moment, then instinctively slapped Su Yu on the back of his head, scolding, "Nonsense..." But she was shocked because, with that slap, Su Yu passed out completely. Qin Jia Gui kept clenching and unclenching his right hand, feeling the strange power within it. He murmured, "I understand now... No wonder Su Yu became so fierce. After killing these monsters... you can gain unimaginable power..." His face instinctively showed a hint of excitement after the intense tension. When Su Yu regained consciousness, he found himself lying in a hospital bed in the infirmary. The surroundings were filled with the noise of people. The original beds were insufficient, so many temporary ones had been added. Looking around, he saw many wounded wrapped like mummies. Thinking of his own injuries, Su Yu looked down and immediately realized he was probably the most heavily bandaged person there. Except for his left arm, every part of him was injured, making it impossible to move. "Su Yu is awake." A voice full of surprise called out, and then familiar faces like Su Yu and Lei Rui appeared. "Su Yu," a sweet voice called out again. Su Yu lifted his head slightly and saw a fair-skinned woman with smooth, white skin. The woman looked to be about twenty-six or twenty-seven years old, with long hair draped over her shoulders. She wore a black half-dress with a belt around her waist, highlighting her voluptuous and alluring figure, especially her long legs, which were quite captivating. "Miss Meng," Su Yu croaked out, realizing his voice was hoarse, which startled him. This voluptuous, mature beauty was Meng Bo, their counselor for Computer Science Class 2 and their English teacher. Although she had a boyfriend, she was not yet married and was the dream girl of many male students, often the object of their fantasies at night. "You were very brave. Even I couldn't imagine that you could kill four of those green... those monsters on your own." When mentioning the green-skinned monsters, Miss Meng's face showed a hint of fear. Su Yu suddenly remembered that there were at least fifteen or sixteen green-skinned monsters that had rushed into the campus. He hurriedly asked, "What about the other monsters? What's the situation now? What about Zhang Zhongmou?" He wanted to ask about Ning Yan, but seeing Su Yu nearby, he somehow didn't dare to. "Young Master Yu, where are your eyes? I'm lying right next to you. All you see are beauties; can't you even see your brother here?" A voice grunted beside him. Su Yu turned his head in surprise and saw that the patient in the next bed, also wrapped in bandages, was none other than his best friend, Zhang Zhongmou. Su Yu sighed in relief. Although Zhang Zhongmou seemed to be seriously injured, he was alive, and that was what mattered. Meng Bo said, "A total of seventeen monsters were killed. Su Yu, you should focus on recovering. Everyone, let's leave and not disturb them." "Yes," Lei Rui replied, casting a concerned glance at Su Yu before saying, "Su Yu, thank you." Su Yu was taken aback, surprised that this usually arrogant top student, who never paid him any mind, would thank him, a bottom-tier student. "What's the matter, Class President?" Su Yu asked, puzzled. "I'm thanking you on behalf of the entire class. If it weren't for you... we would all be dead. You... saved us." Lei Rui seemed a bit embarrassed as she recalled her previous attitude towards Su Yu. She awkwardly pulled Su Yu along and left. Su Yu looked back at Su Yu as if she wanted to say something but ultimately said nothing. Instead, she told Zhang Zhongmou, "Take care and recover." Zhang Zhongmou, surprised, said, "Has Su Yu changed her tune? She actually knows how to care about people now. Isn't that strange, Young Master Yu?" Su Yu groaned in pain, thinking for a moment before asking, "I've been unconscious for a while. When I woke up, I was here. What's the situation outside? Have the police come? Have they found out what those monster-like things are? Could they be mutated animals that escaped from a zoo? Or some twisted experiment by a mad scientist?" "Police?" Zhang Zhongmou's face darkened as he replied, "No, no one's phone has any signal, and even the school's landlines aren't working. This time, it looks like over a hundred people have died... The bodies are still piled up outside, and it seems there's some disagreement among the school authorities about how to handle them." Su Yu felt a chill run through him, followed by a surge of anger. He said, "If the phones aren't working, can't they go in person? The police station isn't far from our school. Something this serious has happened, and no one's doing anything about it? This is..." His agitation caused his injuries to flare up, and he gasped in pain. In fact, with so many injuries, they should have been transferred to a major city hospital long ago. But here they were, crowded in the school infirmary, where the medical facilities were rudimentary, only capable of basic bandaging. The air was filled with the groans and screams of seriously injured patients. Su Yu, already angry, thought to himself, "Is the school trying to cover this up? No, so many people have died; how could they cover this up?" "No, it's not that no one's doing anything... It's just that now..." Zhang Zhongmou's face took on a strange expression. "It's that no one knows where we are." Su Yu froze. "What do you mean? Old Mou, what do you mean no one knows where we are? Aren't we at the school? Isn't this the school's infirmary?" Zhang Zhongmou smiled bitterly and said, "Listen to me. This... if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have thought I was dreaming. Outside the school... everything's changed. It's all trees now. Damn it, it's too weird... Our school has somehow ended up in a forest." "What?" Su Yu was so shocked he couldn't react for a moment. "A forest? What forest?" "Outside our school... it's no longer the scenery we're used to seeing. The roads are gone, the residential area is gone, our usual internet cafe is gone, the billiard room is gone... Now, it's all an endless forest, full of towering trees." As Zhang Zhongmou spoke, his voice grew stranger, and by the end, even his tone had changed. Such a thing would seem unbelievable to anyone. Su Yu listened in shock, almost thinking he had misheard. Then he turned to the other injured students and asked one of the girls, "Is everything he said true?" The girl, her face full of fear, nodded, too frightened to speak. The outside of the school has turned into a forest? What kind of nonsense is this? A sci-fi movie? Or a Hollywood blockbuster? Su Yu was about to laugh, thinking that Zhang Zhongmou and the others must be playing a prank on him. Suddenly, Su Yu remembered the loud "rumbling" and the violent shaking in the school before everything happened. Then, the sky turned dark. At that time, he had a vague feeling that it was as if the sky had changed. "The sky changed?" Su Yu gasped, suddenly feeling a chill all over.
