It worked! It f*****g worked! I couldn’t believe it!
The roar of the public drowned everything out for one split moment. I took Celeste into my arms, my smile splitting my face so wide. As I spun her around I couldn’t contain my joy. When I stopped and held her in my arms, I turned looking for Constance, but she was gone. My stomach bottomed out for some reason at her sudden departure.
“C’mon love birds,” Nikolai smirked, slapping a congratulatory hand on my shoulder, snapping me back to the present. “We should probably leave before they decide to change their minds.”
Yes. We were free to walk out of here. It felt good to know we wouldn’t die here. Not today. Not tomorrow. We had time.
