They woke before first light, moving around quietly in the dark. Tessie's baskets waited by the door, already packed to the brim with ginger cakes as she sat the table with her head in her hands and her stomach in knots. Behind her, Finn dressed and pulled on his boots, the minutes ticking by at an excruciating pace. As light peeked through their window, the courtyard activity below heralded the hour.
