The carriage rattled on, racing around corners so that Tessie's stomach flipped at the prospect of toppling sideways.
"We're heading towards the park," Kyran said, and Tessie tried to see as they drew to an abrupt stop. Everything went quiet, and with barely a pause the door opened. It was Arthur, his broad shoulders filling the door frame in his thick overcoat.
"Greetings," he said, his eyes alive and searching. He reached for Ruby. Gripping her by the shoulder and dragging her down, he exposed the knife in his hand. Kyran lunged forward as Arthur pierced the knife through her pearly dress. He thrust it upwards as Ruby screamed and then shoved her back against Kyran whose face convulsed in horrified protest.
