Tessie and Madochée furiously paced the parlour on Albemarle Street. She had set out a platter of candied fruits and custards to occupy Madochée, though they both sat glued to the windows, their insides a burst of flutters and tingles.
"Why are they taking so long?" Madochée cried.
Tessie mirrored her agonising impatience. "I don't know." It had been hours now since she had left Kyran with Arthur as they moved to the Old Bailey.
