Chapter 30 Hours passed, her back turning cold against the stone roof wall. Changing position to stay comfortable and keep watch was a difficult task. Her legs were stiffening and the cold was wearing her out. But as the church bells struck 11 o'clock, she felt a tingling sensation, the anticipation building. He was close. She watched the corners of the building with eagerness. He would make his appearance, she was sure of it. There, his maroon coat swooped around the corner, and in his loping gate he strode towards the door and disappeared inside. "Yes!" Tessie gasped, though quickly followed it with a sigh to herself.
