FREESIA

1450 Words
Kevin gently punched Adam’s shoulder. “Didn’t I tell you not to get close to Freesia?” “What did I do? We just danced” Adam replied innocently. “Adam…” “I want her phone number.” Kevin’s eyes widened. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m not going to do anything to her.” “How am I supposed to give you her number? What’s the excuse?” “Just make something up” Adam replied, looking straight into his friend’s eyes—the look Kevin knew all too well. That look meant Adam was serious and stubborn beyond reason. He sighed. “Look, we have a group chat—me, her, and Lily. I can add you to send us the wedding photos you took. Her number will be visible there. But I swear, Adam, if anything happens like what I’m thinking...” Adam cut him off, “Relax. Don’t you trust me?” Kevin sighed again, already knowing what his friend wanted. Adam had never met a girl like Freesia before, and he knew he wouldn’t stop until he satisfied his curiosity. Meanwhile, Lily watched Freesia approaching. “Look who you were dancing with just now” Lily teased. “I was happy” Freesia said, beaming. “Of course you were—it’s your first time dancing with a man” Lily replied with a grin, and Freesia gave her a smile in return. 🌺 The bride and groom sat together in the car. “Are you okay?” Kevin asked. “You’re asking because I didn’t scold you for letting Adam dance with my friend?” she raised an eyebrow. He nodded, making her smile. “Well, I didn’t like seeing her with a guy I don’t know. I don’t trust any of the men who were at the wedding—except Adam. And even though I know him well, I trusted he wouldn’t do anything foolish if he knew she was my friend.” Kevin smiled and kissed her cheek. “You’re my wonderful wife.” 🌺 Freesia stood outside the hotel, waiting for the cab she had ordered. Unfortunately, it had started raining, which would surely delay the car. Adam was driving out of the hotel when he saw her standing alone. He stopped the car immediately and stepped out. “You’re still here?” “I’m waiting for the cab I ordered” she replied, looking anxiously at the road in case it appeared. Adam checked his watch—it was 1 AM. “It’s definitely going to be late because of the weather.” Freesia looked at her phone, worried her parents would be concerned. She had spoken to them earlier and told them she was waiting for a ride. “Come on, I’ll take you home.” “No, I don’t want to bother you. It should be here any minute.” “Freesia, it won’t be here soon and you know it. You’ll freeze out here” he said, noticing her shivering. He took off his jacket and put it over her shoulders. She tried to take it off, but he stopped her. “Just leave it. Come on, I’m not letting you stand here at this hour. Besides, it’s risky getting into a stranger’s car this late.” As if you’re not a stranger. She sighed and gave in. He opened the car door for her, then got in himself and started driving. “Where do you live?” he asked. She gave him the address. As he drove, he kept stealing glances at her, noticing how calm she looked. At a red light, he glanced over again—she had fallen asleep, hugging his jacket tightly for warmth. He smiled and turned his eyes back to the road. After half an hour, they arrived. He parked outside a residential building and gently called her name. “Freesia” he said softly, not wanting to scare her. She stirred quickly—she was a light sleeper. “We’re here” he added in the same soft tone. She straightened herself. “I fell asleep… I’m really sorry for making you late, and thank you for the ride.” Adam smiled. “No need to apologize.” She reached to return the jacket, but he stopped her. “Don’t take it off—you’ll get sick. Keep it.” “But—” “You can return it to me later” he said—clearly looking for an excuse to see her again. She nodded and took out her phone. Then she noticed several messages in the group chat. Kevin: Adam, send the photos! I want to wake up and find them already there. “Looks like Kevin added you to our group chat” she said. Adam smiled—he hadn’t expected his friend to do it so quickly. “That’s great. It’ll make it easier to stay in touch with you.” Because I don’t think I’ll be able to stop thinking about you Freesia. 🌺 Adam entered his house, about to go upstairs, when he noticed his mother sitting in the living room. “Mom?” he called softly. She opened her eyes—she had been dozing, waiting for her son. She knew he loved staying out late, so she’d decided to rest on the couch until he got back. “You’re home.” She glanced at the clock near the TV—it was 2 AM. “Mom, I told you not to wait for me.” “I just wanted to know you got home safely” she said, sitting up straighter. Adam sighed. “But you know I always come back late…” “I know, I know. But just tell me—when will you stop all this?” He chuckled. “Mom, I’m not doing anything bad. And I’m 25 now—I’m not a kid for you to stay up like this and exhaust yourself.” She smiled. “Even when you’re old and toothless, you’ll still be my little boy.” She ran her fingers through his dark hair, something she’d done since he was a child. “Now, tell me about Kevin’s wedding. I really wish I could’ve gone, but I had to attend that work dinner with your father.” “I know—and so does he. But let me tell you everything tomorrow. I’m really tired.” She nodded and then noticed something. “Where’s your jacket, Adam?” “I left it with someone.” “Someone?” She raised an eyebrow and smirked—she knew him too well. “I left it with Freesia. And no, don’t ask me anything. She’s just a friend of Kevin and Lily, and I gave her a ride home.” She gasped softly, clearly shocked. “Adam… giving a girl a ride and his jacket just because she’s his friends’ friend? You really think I’m going to believe that?” “Mom, please. Go upstairs and rest. Dad’s going to worry if he doesn’t find you next to him. Go on—don’t overthink.” He gently nudged her toward the stairs. “Alright, alright. She’s just like the others, I’m sure.” She shook her head as she walked up, secretly hoping her son would get over his fears and find someone to truly share his life with. “She’s just like the others” he muttered, walking past her. But deep down, he knew… Freesia wasn’t like anyone he had ever met before. He lay on his bed, phone in hand, scrolling through i********: in search of her account. He wasn’t sure where he suddenly found the courage. He had always told himself that Lily’s friends were strictly off-limits. He liked Lily—really liked her—and he’d never want to lose a friend like her. But he also knew that if she ever found out he was looking into her friends, she’d lose it. He could even imagine her ditching her honeymoon just to confront him. “Finally” he muttered in relief when her profile popped up. “Damn it” he cursed aloud when he saw her profile was private. . He sighed, locked his phone… but only for a few seconds. Unlocking it again, he went to their chat, saved her number, and—his heart skipped—her status appeared immediately. She had saved his number. A faint smile touched his lips. He tapped on her status, only to see a picture of some flowers, posted at 3 AM the previous night. He sighed again. He had hoped for something more interesting.
