Chapter 15 – The First War

Part 1 The alarm howl shattered the quiet of the night. It echoed across Shadowclaw territory, deep and urgent. Lyla’s eyes snapped open instantly. Her wolf surged awake inside her chest. Attack. Outside, wolves were already running. Warriors rushed toward the borders while the pack members moved quickly to safety. Lyla stepped outside just as Kael appeared in the courtyard, already in command. His golden eyes glowed dangerously. “They’re here,” he said. Lyla didn’t need to ask who. Damon. Her wolf growled low in her chest. Let him come. Kael stepped closer to her, his voice steady despite the tension in the air. “Stay beside me,” he said. “This fight will be different.” Lyla nodded. “I’m not afraid.” Kael studied her face for a moment. Then a faint smile touched his lips. “I know.” A warrior rushed toward them. “Alpha! Damon’s forces are breaking through the eastern border!” Kael’s expression hardened instantly. “Warriors to the eastern ridge,” he ordered. “Hold the line.” The pack obeyed without hesitation. Lyla shifted into her wolf form beside him, her silver-dark fur glowing faintly under the moonlight. Energy pulsed beneath her skin, stronger than ever. Kael shifted too. His massive black wolf towered beside her, golden eyes blazing. Together, they raced toward the battlefield. Part 2 The eastern ridge was chaos. Wolves clashed under the silver moon, claws and teeth flashing through the darkness. Growls, roars, and battle cries filled the air. At the center of it all stood Damon. His large golden wolf ripped through Shadowclaw warriors with brutal force. When his eyes locked onto Lyla across the battlefield, everything else seemed to fade. He growled deeply. Mine. Lyla’s wolf snarled back. Never. Damon lunged. But this time, Lyla was ready. She moved faster than he expected, her body flowing with power and instinct. She dodged his attack and struck back with a force that sent him sliding across the ground. Damon froze in shock. Lyla stood tall, glowing faintly with the energy of her awakened bloodline. The ground around her trembled slightly. Her power had fully awakened. Kael stepped beside her, his massive form radiating Alpha dominance. Together, they faced Damon. The bond between them pulsed like a living force. Unbreakable. Damon’s eyes flickered with disbelief. “This… isn’t possible,” he growled. Lyla’s voice echoed clearly in his mind through the wolf link. “You rejected me.” Kael’s growl thundered beside her. “And now you face the consequences.” Damon attacked again in desperation. But this time, Lyla and Kael moved together like two halves of the same soul. Perfectly synchronized. Kael intercepted Damon while Lyla struck from the side, her claws glowing faintly with energy. The impact threw Damon backward violently. He crashed against a rock and struggled to stand. For the first time… Fear appeared in his eyes. The warriors around them began retreating. Damon realized the truth. He couldn’t win. Not tonight. He snarled one last time before backing away slowly. “This isn’t over,” he warned. Then he disappeared into the forest with the remainder of his wolves. Silence slowly returned to the battlefield. The Shadowclaw warriors howled in victory. Lyla shifted back into human form, breathing heavily but standing strong. Kael stepped toward her. His golden eyes softened as he looked at her. “You were incredible.” Lyla smiled slightly. “We won.” Kael reached out and gently touched her face. “No,” he said quietly. “We’re just getting started.” Above them, the moon shone brightly, watching over the two wolves whose bond had just changed the balance of power between packs. And far away in the darkness… Damon’s eyes burned with vengeance. He had lost the battle. But the war for Lyla’s destiny had only begun. 🐺✨
