Part 1
That night, Lyla couldn’t sleep.
Her room in the Shadowclaw guest house was quiet, but her mind raced with everything that had happened. Damon’s rejection, the rogues in the forest, Kael rescuing her… and the strange pull she felt whenever she thought of him.
Her wolf stirred restlessly inside her chest, a rhythm she couldn’t ignore.
Mate…
The word echoed softly, almost like a whisper carried on the wind.
Lyla lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, when suddenly a strange warmth spread through her body. She felt weightless, as if the room itself was dissolving around her. A silver glow filled the space, soft and calming.
Her eyelids fluttered shut, and when she opened them, she was no longer in the guest house.
She was in a forest bathed in silver light, the trees glowing under a full moon larger and brighter than any she had ever seen. Mist curled along the ground, and the air smelled of pine, rain, and something faintly sweet.
Her wolf howled softly in recognition.
The Moon…
A figure appeared in the distance. Tall. Golden eyes. Dark hair catching the moonlight. Her heart leapt.
Kael.
He stepped closer, but something about his presence was different—his aura radiated power far beyond what she had felt before.
“Lyla,” he said, his voice echoing like the wind itself.
“Kael… what is this?” she whispered.
“This is the Moon’s vision,” he replied. “The Moon Goddess speaks to wolves with ancient blood. She shows them what they must see… and warns them of what is to come.”
Lyla’s wolf growled softly in her mind, sensing a danger she couldn’t yet name.
“Why am I here?” she asked.
Kael’s gaze softened. “Because you are no ordinary wolf, Lyla. Your destiny… is intertwined with more than just one Alpha.”
The mist thickened, forming shapes that shimmered in and out of existence. Wolves, humans, shadows… and a figure she recognized instantly. Damon.
Her chest tightened.
He was standing on a cliff, looking out at a stormy sky. His eyes were filled with something she hadn’t seen before: regret.
Her wolf stirred violently.
Mate… mine.
But before she could react, a shadow moved between her and Damon—dark, immense, and filled with malice. The shape growled, and a cold fear pierced through her chest.
“You must be careful,” Kael’s voice warned. “There are forces that do not want you to survive this journey… forces that will use your rejection against you.”
The figure of Damon seemed frozen in time, helpless against the shadow. Lyla’s hands clenched, instinctively wanting to shift, to protect him—or herself.
Then, the moon above pulsed brightly, and Lyla felt a surge of energy coursing through her. Her wolf screamed in joy and recognition.
Power… ours…
Her vision blurred, and Kael reached for her hand. When their fingers touched, a shock of warmth and strength passed between them, as if the Moon itself had bound them together.
“You are stronger than you know,” Kael said. “And your wolf… is awakening. But you must trust me if you wish to survive.”
The shadow lunged forward suddenly, and Lyla awoke with a start, gasping for breath.
She was back in her room. The silver light of the moon streamed through the window, casting long shadows across the floor.
Her heart raced, and her wolf was howling inside her mind, more alive than ever.
We are ready.
Lyla sat up, trembling with both fear and excitement. Something had changed. Something powerful had awakened inside her.
And far away, beyond the forests and mountains, Damon’s Alpha instincts flared unexpectedly.
He felt the bond shift… and he felt it too late.
Part 2
The next morning, Kael found Lyla practicing in the guest house courtyard.
She had shifted briefly into her wolf form, testing the strength of her awakened abilities. Her fur shimmered under the morning sun, eyes golden like his, and her movements were fluid, precise, and faster than anything she had ever felt.
Kael leaned against a nearby wall, arms crossed, watching quietly.
“You’ve changed,” he observed.
Lyla froze mid-step. “I… I don’t know what’s happening to me.”
Kael stepped closer, his golden eyes locked onto hers. “Your wolf is awakening. The rejection you endured… it should have destroyed you. But instead, it strengthened you.”
Lyla swallowed. “Why me?”
Kael’s gaze softened. “Because you are not ordinary. You are part of an ancient line… one the Moon Goddess has marked. And now… your true mate must protect you, guide you, and prepare you for what’s coming.”
Her heart skipped. “You mean… you?”
Kael’s golden eyes darkened with intensity. “Yes.”
For a moment, silence fell over the courtyard. Wolves passed by, humans worked, and the world continued, but Lyla felt as if time had stopped.
Her wolf howled inside her chest, affirming the bond she had felt in the forest.
Mate… ours…
Kael took a step closer, his presence overwhelming but comforting at the same time. “You will need to train, Lyla. Soon, forces far stronger than the Bloodmoon Pack will come for you. And when they do… you must be ready.”
Lyla nodded slowly. “I’m ready. I want to be ready.”
Kael’s lips curved into a rare, small smile. “Good. Because from this day forward, nothing will be the same. Your life… your destiny… begins now.”
Her wolf howled in agreement, louder this time, as if announcing to the world that Lyla was no longer just an ordinary wolf.
The Moon hung high above them, silver and powerful, shining like a promise of what was to come.
And somewhere, far beyond the horizon, Damon felt it too—an unshakable pull, a warning that the mate he had rejected was no longer the same girl he had cast aside.
