Chapter 9 – The Moon Goddess

Part 1 That night, Lyla lay awake on the soft mattress in the guest house. The training had exhausted her body, but her mind was alive with questions she couldn’t shake. Her wolf stirred restlessly, alert and insistent. The Moon… is calling. A silver glow filled the room without warning. Lyla sat up, eyes wide. The glow grew brighter, swirling around her like mist. Her chest tightened as an energy unlike any she had ever felt pulsed through her veins. Her wolf howled in recognition. It’s time. Lyla’s vision blurred, and suddenly the room dissolved around her. She found herself standing in a forest bathed in silver moonlight. The trees shimmered, their leaves glowing faintly. Mist curled along the ground. A cold breeze whispered through the branches, carrying a voice that seemed to echo inside her mind. “Lyla…” The voice was melodic, powerful, and serene. It resonated through every fiber of her being. Moon Goddess… Lyla looked up. Above the trees, the moon shone larger than ever, silver light spilling across the forest. From its glow, a figure appeared—a luminous woman, ethereal and beautiful, with eyes that held the wisdom of the ages. “Your bloodline awakens,” the Moon Goddess said softly. “The rejection you suffered was not the end—it was the beginning. Your destiny is not tied to the Alpha who cast you aside. It is tied to the strength that lies within you.” Lyla’s wolf stirred violently, sensing the truth in the words. “I… I don’t understand,” Lyla whispered. “Why me? Why now?” The Moon Goddess smiled faintly. “Because you carry the ancient power of wolves long forgotten. Your mate is not yet revealed, but your bond will be unlike any other. You are chosen to awaken, to rise, and to face the darkness that seeks to claim you.” Suddenly, the mist thickened, and images flashed before Lyla’s eyes—rogue packs, shadows, battles, and a figure with dark hair and golden eyes. Kael. Her heart skipped a beat. “You will need him,” the Goddess continued. “He will guide you. Protect you. But do not mistake guidance for ownership—your strength comes from within.” The glow of the moon intensified, surrounding Lyla with warmth and energy. Her wolf howled, and for the first time, she felt truly whole. We are ready. Part 2 The vision shifted. Lyla saw Damon, standing in the Bloodmoon pack grounds, his eyes wide with shock as he felt the bond shift—the same bond he had destroyed now awakening in a way he could neither control nor ignore. “Impossible…” he muttered under his breath. “She was mine…” But Lyla’s wolf growled, fierce and protective. Not his. Ours. The Moon Goddess’s voice echoed again, gentle but firm. “He who rejects you cannot claim you. Your strength is yours alone. Remember this, child of the ancient bloodline.” The vision dissolved slowly, and Lyla felt herself pulled back into her guest house room. She gasped, sitting upright, the energy from the vision still coursing through her veins. Her wolf stirred wildly inside her, stronger than ever. Kael stepped quietly into the room, his golden eyes locking on hers immediately. “You’ve returned,” he said, calm but alert. “I could feel your awakening from here. Your power… it’s stronger than I anticipated.” Lyla stood, feeling the surge of energy inside her body. “It was… the Moon Goddess. She spoke to me. She told me… my power, my destiny…” Kael stepped closer, studying her. “I felt it. Your energy… it’s unlike any wolf I’ve ever encountered. If you continue at this pace, your awakening will be complete sooner than I expected.” Lyla’s chest tightened with anticipation and fear. “Kael… what if Damon tries to find me? What if he comes back?” Kael’s expression darkened, golden eyes flashing. “Let him try. You are no longer the girl he rejected. You are something far stronger. And he will regret every choice he made.” Her wolf howled inside her mind, confirming Kael’s words. We are ready. He will not take us. The night stretched on, and Lyla knew her life would never be the same. The Moon Goddess had spoken. The power within her had awakened. And somewhere, far away, Damon felt the shift… and for the first time, fear gripped him.
