Part 1
The forest fell deathly silent.
The rogue holding Lyla’s arm froze the moment the massive wolf stepped into the moonlight.
The creature was enormous.
Bigger than any wolf Lyla had ever seen in the Bloodmoon Pack. His dark fur shimmered under the silver light of the moon, and his golden eyes burned like fire in the darkness.
Pure Alpha power radiated from him.
Even the air seemed to tremble.
The rogue wolves immediately stepped back.
“That’s… that’s not just any Alpha,” one of them whispered nervously.
The leader’s confident expression had completely vanished.
“Run,” he muttered.
But it was already too late.
The giant wolf let out another terrifying growl that echoed through the forest like thunder.
The rogue who had been holding Lyla quickly released her arm and stumbled backward.
“We didn’t know this was your territory!” the leader shouted quickly.
The Alpha wolf didn’t respond.
He simply took one slow step forward.
Then another.
Each movement was silent but deadly.
The rogues panicked.
“RUN!” the leader yelled.
They turned and bolted into the forest, disappearing between the trees in seconds.
But the Alpha didn’t chase them.
His glowing eyes remained fixed on Lyla.
The moment the rogues disappeared, the forest became quiet again.
Too quiet.
Lyla slowly pushed herself up from the ground, her legs trembling violently.
Her heart was still racing.
She lifted her gaze toward the enormous wolf standing only a few steps away.
He was watching her carefully.
Not like prey.
Not like an enemy.
But like something… important.
Her wolf stirred suddenly, stronger than before.
MATE.
The word exploded through Lyla’s mind again.
Her breath caught in her throat.
“No…” she whispered.
It couldn’t be.
Not after what just happened.
Not after Damon rejected her.
But the pull inside her chest was undeniable.
Strong.
Powerful.
The massive wolf’s ears twitched slightly as if he had heard her whisper.
For a moment, the two of them simply stared at each other under the pale moonlight.
Then the wolf slowly stepped back.
His body began to shift.
Bones cracked.
Muscles twisted.
Dark fur disappeared as the enormous wolf transformed into a man.
Lyla gasped softly.
Standing before her now was a tall, broad-shouldered man with dark hair that fell slightly over his forehead. His golden eyes were the same ones she had seen moments ago glowing in the darkness.
They were still locked on her.
Intense.
Studying.
Curious.
Lyla quickly looked away, her cheeks burning when she realized he wasn’t wearing any clothes after shifting.
The man didn’t seem embarrassed at all.
Instead, his deep voice broke the silence.
“You’re injured.”
Part 2
Lyla blinked in surprise.
His voice was calm but powerful, carrying the authority of someone used to being obeyed.
“I’m fine,” she said quickly.
But the moment she tried to stand properly, pain shot through her knee and she winced.
The stranger Alpha noticed immediately.
“You’re not fine,” he said.
Before Lyla could react, he stepped closer.
Her heart began racing again.
Up close, his presence was overwhelming.
His scent—warm cedarwood mixed with wild forest air—wrapped around her senses like an invisible embrace.
Her wolf stirred excitedly.
Mate…
Lyla’s chest tightened.
She took a step back instinctively.
“I can take care of myself,” she said softly.
The Alpha studied her face carefully.
“You’re from the Bloodmoon Pack,” he said.
It wasn’t a question.
Lyla hesitated before nodding slowly.
“Yes.”
His golden eyes narrowed slightly.
“What are you doing alone in rogue territory?”
The question hit her like a stone.
Lyla looked down at the ground, unsure how to answer.
Because the truth was humiliating.
Because saying the words out loud would make everything feel even more real.
The Alpha seemed to notice her hesitation.
Then his expression darkened slightly.
“Did they cast you out?”
Lyla’s silence was answer enough.
For a moment, anger flashed across the stranger’s face.
Not directed at her.
But at someone else.
“Who did this to you?” he asked quietly.
Lyla swallowed hard.
“Alpha Damon,” she whispered.
The moment the name left her lips, the stranger’s eyes flashed with something dangerous.
Recognition.
“So it’s true,” he murmured.
Lyla frowned slightly.
“What do you mean?”
The Alpha crossed his arms thoughtfully, studying her again.
“The Bloodmoon Alpha rejected his mate tonight,” he said.
“The news traveled faster than you think.”
Humiliation burned through Lyla again.
Even strangers already knew about her rejection.
She turned away slightly, trying to hide the tears gathering in her eyes.
“I should go,” she said quietly.
But before she could take another step, the Alpha spoke again.
“You can’t.”
Lyla froze.
“Why?”
His golden gaze softened slightly as he answered.
“Because those rogues will come back.”
Her stomach twisted nervously.
“And next time,” he added calmly, “I might not arrive in time.”
The forest wind rustled softly through the trees as silence fell between them again.
Then the Alpha said something that made Lyla’s heart skip a beat.
“Come with me.”
Lyla slowly looked up.
“To where?” she asked.
The stranger’s lips curved into a faint, mysterious smile.
“My pack.”
Then he added the words that made her wolf shiver with excitement.
“You’ll be safe there.”
