Part 1
The pain was unbearable.
It spread through Lyla’s chest like fire, burning through every nerve in her body. She collapsed onto the cold ground, her fingers digging into the dirt as she struggled to breathe.
The rejection was worse than anything she had ever felt.
It wasn’t just emotional pain.
It was physical.
Her wolf was howling in agony inside her mind, thrashing violently against the broken bond.
Mate… why…?
Tears streamed down Lyla’s face as the crowd around her erupted into whispers.
“Did the Alpha really reject her?”
“In front of everyone…”
“She’s just an omega. What did she expect?”
The words cut deeper than knives.
Lyla squeezed her eyes shut, wishing the earth would swallow her whole.
Through her blurred vision, she saw Damon standing a few feet away, his back turned to her as if she were nothing more than a stranger.
The bond between them flickered weakly, like a dying flame.
Every second felt like torture.
“Stand up.”
The cold command came from Damon.
Lyla’s heart twisted painfully.
Slowly, trembling, she pushed herself to her feet. Her legs barely held her weight.
The entire pack was watching.
Watching her humiliation.
Damon finally turned around. His expression was as hard and unreadable as stone.
“You will leave the pack grounds tonight,” he said.
Gasps rippled through the crowd again.
Lyla stared at him, disbelief flooding her chest.
“Leave…?” her voice cracked.
“You heard me,” Damon replied coldly. “You are no longer welcome here.”
Her world tilted.
“This is my home,” Lyla whispered.
Damon’s gaze didn’t soften.
“You stopped being part of this pack the moment I rejected you.”
The words struck her harder than the rejection itself.
For years, Lyla had served the Bloodmoon Pack faithfully. She cooked, cleaned, and helped wherever she was needed.
This place was the only home she had ever known.
And now he was throwing her away like she meant nothing.
Maya suddenly pushed through the crowd, her face pale with shock.
“Alpha, you can’t do this!” she protested. “She hasn’t done anything wrong!”
Damon’s dark eyes shifted to her.
“Careful, Maya,” he said quietly. “Do not question my authority.”
Maya hesitated but didn’t move.
“She’s your mate,” she whispered.
The crowd went silent again.
For a brief moment, something flickered in Damon’s eyes.
Conflict.
But it disappeared just as quickly.
“I said,” Damon repeated coldly, “I do not accept her.”
Lyla felt the final piece of her heart shatter.
Part 2
An elder stepped forward from the crowd.
It was Beta Marcus, Damon’s right-hand man.
“Alpha,” Marcus said cautiously, “the law of the pack states that a rejected mate must be given time to recover before exile.”
Damon’s jaw tightened.
“That law exists to protect the pack,” he replied. “Not to protect weakness.”
Lyla’s chest tightened painfully at the word.
Weakness.
That was what he thought she was.
Marcus sighed quietly, clearly uncomfortable with the situation, but he didn’t argue further.
No one challenged the Alpha.
No one dared.
Damon’s voice rang across the clearing.
“You have until sunrise to leave Bloodmoon territory.”
The finality in his tone made several pack members lower their heads.
Lyla felt completely numb now.
The pain, the humiliation, the heartbreak—it was too much.
Her wolf had grown strangely quiet.
Too quiet.
Slowly, Lyla wiped the tears from her face.
If Damon expected her to beg… he would be disappointed.
She lifted her head and looked directly at him for the first time since the rejection.
The moment their eyes met, the weak thread of the mate bond trembled between them.
Damon’s expression hardened.
But for a brief second, Lyla thought she saw something else.
Regret.
It vanished almost instantly.
Lyla straightened her shoulders.
“I understand, Alpha,” she said quietly.
The formal words created distance between them.
Damon didn’t respond.
Without another word, Lyla turned away from the clearing.
The crowd parted silently as she walked past them.
Every step felt heavier than the last.
Behind her, the music slowly started again.
The celebration continued.
As if nothing had happened.
As if her heart hadn’t just been destroyed.
As Lyla walked toward the forest path leading away from the pack house, the cool night wind brushed against her tear-streaked face.
She didn’t look back.
But deep inside her chest, the strange power that had stirred earlier pulsed again.
Stronger this time.
And somewhere far beyond Bloodmoon territory…
a powerful Alpha suddenly felt it.
He stood abruptly from his chair, golden eyes glowing in the darkness.
“The bond…” he murmured.
His wolf growled with excitement.
“She’s been rejected.”
A slow smile spread across his face.
“Good,” he said.
“Now she can finally find her true destiny.”
