“This is the paradise we’ve always dreamed of. We will not be observed by anyone. Even your husband despises the child.” Upon arrival, I was astonished to find a cave that resembled paradise. As I observed the child growing up, my mother consistently provided words of encouragement. Abby was Karin’s closest friend until he was ready to start walking and speaking independently. Sana kept a watchful eye on my daily responsibilities alongside my mother. I was aware that the search for me never ceased. I observed the distress in my husband’s heart. He would decide to marry someone else instead of me. I sacrificed my marriage for the love of my magical child.
“Anasazi had requested a meeting with the council to be held.” I wondered where Sana got such news that she shared with me about the upcoming search for me. She is constantly watching over us like a guardian angel, always vigilant day and night.
“You have to be a fortune-teller who can predict good luck. Can you reveal who informed you while you were concealed?” I had to question my trusted friend. I felt like trust was being completely taken away.
“Do not mock my lady. I am not one of them, but the group was able to reach our fort. I was collecting sticks outdoors when they caught my eye.” Her attitude towards me made me quick to believe her. After she finished speaking, silence took over the cave we were hiding in. Soon the noise of the horses could be heard, making a loud sound as if it were approaching to shatter the cave and eliminate all of us. I could detect the remorse in Sana’s gaze. I could tell that she regretted not leaving the cave. However, were we going to stay in the cave indefinitely?
Sana shouldn’t be deemed responsible for the betrayal by the herd.
“Excuse me, my lady. I am prepared to endure all of your criticism. I ask that you hold me responsible for everything that occurs.” I smiled to show my disapproval of her thoughts.
“You have not committed any wrongdoing. I need to stay here and attend the meeting with the council. You have committed no wrongdoing.” I stood up to provide her with a path to come and hug me as she desired. Truly, she acted as I had anticipated.
“I will accompany you to provide whatever assistance you may require.” Once again, her words restored my trust in her.
I nodded and watched as she lifted the child to carry him towards me to hug. As she embraced him tightly, his changes fascinated those inside the cave. His smooth transition between being human and a wolf-like creature, and then back to being human again. His eyes gleamed with a curiosity verging on the divine. We were all amazed by his skills. Our hushed expressions of admiration and apprehension blend together in the atmosphere like a symphony of contradictory feelings.
“If you bring him with you to the council meeting, he will be your safeguard.” My mother’s advice resonated deeply with me. I nodded in agreement to grant her request. Abby also smiled. She was aware that holding the magical infant would bring her delight. I also smoked towards her.
He provides me with so much comfort that all my worries are completely erased. He is a peaceful prince. I could tell from her speech that she is genuinely thrilled. Certainly she adored my magical child. My son Karin has not committed any evil deeds against us. This showed me that he was not a curse, but a blessing. I am unsure why. Anasazi, my husband and I argue about this child.
“I felt pain in my heart as I struggled with the decision to bring my special child to the council’s gathering. Will you abandon your child so that the elders can exile him? Are you willing to defend him in battle?” I could now perceive the doubt in my mom’s heart.
“No, mother, I will not give up trying to persuade the elders to reconsider, to recognize the beauty and potential in my son’s extraordinary talents.” I believed that my ability to speak well would lead to new opportunities. However, my husband’s hatred towards the child always causes me to bite my lower lip whenever I think of him. He had transformed into a troublemaker.
I now could sense my fingers gripping tightly onto the strap of the pack. The intensity of my grip makes my knuckles turn white. I would never allow my son’s exceptional talents to be responsible for the destruction of all humanity. No matter what awaited us on the faraway planet of Xendari, I would confront it directly. My affection for Karin, the beacon of hope that will lead us out of the shadows.
“Queen Asmara, we kindly ask you to exit the cave so that King Anasazi’s messengers can escort you to the council.” The day we were leaving had come, I sensed it from the message delivered by my husband’s messengers. A feeling of anxiety crept into my stomach while Abby and I faced my mother and Sana. I could observe their expressions marked by a serious solemnity.
“You listened to the words spoken by the emissaries.” Please leave before the incursion into my cave begins. I would be left completely destroyed.” After she finished speaking, she gave me a distant hug.
I looked at the small number of possessions that my maids and I had collected. This is only a small assortment of objects that symbolize our entire existence on this planet. While I packed my small travel bag with each item, memories of Karin’s early life, a mix of amazement and unease, flooded my thoughts.
I guided the path towards the exit. Abby walked alongside Sana, holding the baby in her arms.
My mom gazed at us, contemplating what would happen to her daughter.
I turned around and saw her looking in my direction. I had to fake a smile in order to ignite a glimmer of hope that everything would turn out okay. I followed her gesture and turned my gaze towards the exit. I could feel the messengers having a heated discussion near the entrance of the cave. Next, I heard the clash of swords as if a fierce battle was happening.
“Are they currently engaged in conflict with each other?” I inquired after some time. My servants seemed unaware of the events unfolding beyond the cave. We have been stuck in the cave for days. We had no idea about the weather conditions. However, the chill we experienced provided proof of the bad weather outside. My focus is now on my baby’s well-being.
The silence had descended. Therefore, I gathered my courage and bravely looked outside the cave, only to be met with a strange sight. I had to ghastly shut the door to keep out the supernatural beings I saw at the door.
The child began to make a sorrowful wolf-like noise that caused the door to open. I had nowhere to conceal myself. There were numerous blue eyes by the entrance. Abby dropped the infant and quickly left to return to my mother. The boy remained uninjured as he began to play by himself. I needed to take action to stop the alpha’s envoys who wanted to bring my child to Xendari.
“He is too young to be separated from his mother’s embrace. Allow him to grow and develop until he is capable of being independent.” I tripped and landed with my eyes open. I could witness the messengers of my husband’s lifeless body as if they had been brutally attacked with axes. This might ignite further animosity towards my child. I am aware that he will be held accountable for killing the messengers.
“Stay confident when you face the council. Be aware that the alpha is taking care of his possessions.” The alpha’s messenger’s words gave me strength.
“Why did he choose me to be responsible for his child?” I was unaware that they would provide a response to my inquiries.
“You have been selected to be the origin of the unification of the two Kingdoms. Your son will lead us back to our homeland.” The messenger responded. I have discovered the cause of my husband, the king, hating our child.
However, he has decided, and I am certain that no matter how much I beg, he will not change his mind. It’s been two years now since he last saw his wife. I have already been replaced.
“Can you guide us to the palace since you eliminated the messengers who were supposed to bring us there? Do you not realize that you have caused my child to be even more despised?” It was the agony that caused me to express disapproval. However, my scream caused them to flee without even bothering to repair the door.
When I turned around, I saw that my mother and Abby were nowhere to be found. They were already being held by Sana.
“What is our plan for reaching the palace during this inclement weather?” That was the same question that I was pondering as well. There is no possibility of us sleeping with so many people dead at the entrance of our cave. Our homes will be raided. I felt the presence of a military force coming near, but they were just there to accompany me to the council meeting.
“Let’s prepare the horses that are owned by my husband's messengers. Let this storm strike us and then leave us soaked.” As though this was what she was thinking. Sana swiftly exited the cave to find a horse eating nearby. Taking care of an infant. I observed something odd. There was no storm where the baby was located, it didn’t rain. I had to quickly get to my horse and stick close to the horse that Sana was riding. It was clear to me that my son Karin had brought a magical umbrella for us to seek shelter from the pouring rain. I sensed that our journey would be calm.
We were still en route to the walled city as night descended. I could see that the horses we rode on were all very tired.
“We must take a break and let the horses graze in this forest. They are just as exhausted as we are.” It seemed like Sana wanted to suggest the same plan to me. I halted my horse and gazed around for any signs of shelter. However, everything was pitch black, and even my lamp didn’t provide enough brightness for our needs. I observed the infant let out several sighs, seeming fatigued just like us.
I dismounted my horse and allowed it to graze. Sana did the same thing by allowing her horse to eat. After she dismounted, both the horses bolted towards the city as though being pursued.
“I believed that they were both feeling hungry and exhausted. That is the reason why I allow them to eat. Now they have departed. We are stranded in the middle of nowhere with a baby.” The volume of my thoughts exceeded a whisper, demanding the attention of my companion, Sana. She approached me and stood with a baby in her arms. The mournful cries echoed throughout the entire forest. I could sense that there was something wrong.
“We possess the arrival of the celestial entities. Do not be afraid. We are under surveillance.” Sana’s comforting words served only to thaw my icy demeanor, not to provide me with the necessary vigor to reach the council. However, we had to continue walking for four days until we finally arrived at the city gate.
