After Jason came back drunk, we fought and split up.
I was chosen to take part in a big bidding process for a new energy project.
It was a big solar power project that was important for our company.
I sent Jason a message.
He even packed my luggage for me, including some health products.
"This is hard work. Look after yourself."
He handed me the luggage and said.
We looked at each other for a few seconds, then I said, 'Thank you'.
Jason and I chatted on w******p every day for the next few days.
This reminds me of when we first got married. Is he trying to make up?
The day before I was going to return, Jason suddenly called. His voice was anxious:
"Dad had a stroke and is now in a nursing home. When can you come back? I'm a bit at a loss..."
I remembered that my father-in-law had always had high blood pressure, probably caused by stress at work.
Although he had always been nonchalant towards me, he was Jason's father after all.
I left the project team and got on the return flight.
I arrived at the sanatorium early in the morning, tired. Jason was waiting for me at the door, in a suit, having just arrived from work.
He was relieved to see me but stopped himself from hugging me.
"Dad will be happy you came back so quickly."
I said, “I hope so.”
I was worried about my father-in-law, so I walked faster. When I opened the ward door, I felt sad again.
Grace Wellsley was peeling an orange in front of the hospital bed.
She was wearing a beige Chanel suit, with make-up and a kind smile.
Jason would've told her.
Grace Wellsley smiled and came over. “Emily, we meet again. I hope you don't mind what happened last time. It's all about work.”
"You might even have to get used to my presence on occasions like this."
She whispered in my ear.
Grace Wellsley walked to the hospital bed with an apple.
“Mr.Smith, I've cut up the apple for you. Don't worry, I will come and take care of you every day.”
Father-in-law patted Grace Wellsley's hand, “You are really a good girl. Thank you for your help to Jason.”
Jason was embarrassed. “Dad, I did it myself...”
Father-in-law waved his hand, “Don't be modest. If you were half as good as Grace, you wouldn't have missed so many chances.’
It seems that Grace Wellsley made an effort to please Jason's father.
Jason noticed something was wrong and pulled me to the bedside.
“Dad, Emmy came back to see you on the high-speed train, she even left her job behind.”
But when my father-in-law heard Jason, he didn't react. He just glanced at me.
He gave a faint “hmm”.
Grace Wellsley said, “Isn't Emily on a business trip overseas?”
“It's worth it for my family.”
I replied calmly.
Grace Wellsley turned to Jason. “You said Emily liked the new Apple Smartwatch. Why didn't you buy it?”
Jason blushed and looked at me.
I laughed. Grace Wellsley is good at provoking.
“I also brought a gift today.” Grace Wellsley took out an Apple Watch from her bag.
Jason's gaze was immediately attracted. Grace Wellsley smiled and said, "Jason, can I put it on for Emily?"
Jason hesitated.I said lightly: "It's so kind of you, thank you for the present.”
If he cared about me, he wouldn't have let Grace Wellsley do this.
Grace Wellsley put the watch on for me and asked, ”Do you like it?”
Jason praised, “Grace, it is an excellent choice. Emmy…”
He stopped himself from saying more when he realised I was still there.
The watch got the attention of Jason and my father-in-law.
My father-in-law looked at me with disdain.
He had always looked at me like that because I failed to give the Smiths a son or daughter.
I sneered , she is clever. Not only did it please Jason's father, but it also provoked my relationship with Jason.
This would be a big blow to me before, but now I've seen through it.
The atmosphere got more awkward, and I knew it was because of me.
“You guys talk, I'm going out to get some air.”
I took off my watch and gave it to Grace Wellsley, then left the ward.
