CHAPTER 4: RESCUED Devon could have sworn that she had never felt scared all through her life. It’s been quite a long time since she experienced that feeling. It’s so familiar, yet it was both strange and odd. To have the fear reflected the past she hold dearly, yet to remember them would mean anguish behold her tears, the grudge she kept for the pack, who abandoned her, when what she needed the most were the comfort it offered. The long run as a rogue has never been easy. It was earlier that day. 8 in the morning that she didn’t feel would end unusual, and in an utter devastation, not until she found herself staring towards the pair of lifeless orbs, which belongs to Michelle and Marcus Drosell, her parents. The distraught she felt made her mind blank. She couldn’t move. Not even a single word would let her speak. Nothing escape her lips. Luna was left glued, and stunned on her spot. Coldness swept through her. Her chest was gripped, clutch and it became harder for her to breathe. “M—ma—…” Her lips quiver. The mourn drops from that word she first express the moment she found out about what happened. Her beautiful mother, who lay on her back side by side with her own father on their wolf form. Her white fur stained with the bloods of her own put a wreckage to the freshly made wound cause by some rogues they encountered. Her skin shredded. Her canines painted with death. Her entire being lies trajectory to how she was reap and sow, brought towards the doorway altogether with her own father, who had taken it worst. Beheaded, heedless eyes gouge. Luna trembled. The side of her eyes watered. They brimmed with tears. Pain, agony, and hate. “W—why.” She was shaking horribly. Luna sobs. The cries raked her back as she shook. Her entire being wobbled ‘til she fell beside towards their corpses. They were cold. They weren’t warm anymore as far as she can remember. On her memories, the smiling visage of her mother flashed before her eyes. It hurts. It hurts badly, as if There’s something, which is tearing and churning her insides to one of the most painful way she had ever experienced. “W—why?” Her cries resonated. The howl ruptured, and stifled the death of her love ones. It echoed, followed by the same howl of the entire pack. They mourn with her, although they had never been good to her family before. They are pack, they share the same pain. Nevertheless, the distraught she felt has been replaced by loathe. The agony fueled the fury she keep for so long. How can they die…if their call for help had not been disregard? If they had not been neglected, when they seek for help? It lulls. The questions she had flared the innocence she hold. She was forgiving. What had they done wrong? Was it because of the rumors that has been going on around? Luna’s wolf growled, it was ferocious, avenging and unforgiving. Before she could realized what she’s been doing, Luna picked up his father’s head. It feels heavy. She gritted her teeth. She was moving on her own accord, her body were like compelled by the brewing uproar and emotion that bottled her insides that day. Leaving her mother’s corpse pained her greatly. Yet she couldn’t suppress her feet routed to where the pack house was. “Oh my god!” She heard somebody screamed as they saw her state. Tear stricken cheeks, mud clinging at the hem of her dress, barefooted; she could feel the member of the pack’s gazing at her. Some are not regretful, but a few of—Luna could smell the sadness they emit. Their eyes are trained across towards the head she carries on her hand. Her father. As she arrive in front of where she is supposed to, the two warriors who blocked her path were shock, but they couldn’t look her on her eyes. They couldn’t meet her gaze and Luna knew why. “Luna.” They uttered. “I wanted to talk to the Alpha.” Her expression is unreadable. Luna’s voice is cold, her look is blank as if she do not want anybody to see what she was suffering from. “But Luna—” But the other one only shook his head, before he face her. “He’s inside.” He briefly said. That was fair enough to encourage Luna to go. “Are you crazy?” The other man incredulously asked in a low voice. “She needed it.” Luna did not dare to turn around just so she could see their face. The moment she arrived towards her destination, barging in completely uninvited, everybody who was on her Alpha’s office were appalled. The meeting were hold. Each wolves in their human form were stunned. “How dare you?!” The woman, their pack warrior screamed with fury. But she matched her madness with the same angst look that painted her eyes. The pair she holds were much darker, mirroring the rage of both her and her wolf. She did not submit, when she growls. It was as if every sense she have vanished into thin air. “What do you need, Luna?” It was Alpha Raven. He had the same cold look, which Luna hated. He looks calm, and unbothered. She gritted her teeth. Before she could stop her action, Luna place her father’s head on his table. “I wanted an explanation.” She matched the coldness of his voice. “Where do you want to start—” But Luna cut him off. “Why—” She clenched her jaw. She was shaking. “Tell me, Alpha. W—why….did nobody help them, when they ask for help?” “Luna—” “I hate you. I hate everybody of you!” Luna thought that there would be lament, but that day started for the beginning of a new hell for her. Devon shook her head off, and disregard that sudden avalanche of memories. It wasn’t the time for her to reminisce what took place in the past. She pushed her hind legs to run and escape. On her peripheral vision, she could see Jasper doing the same. However, she knew—both of them knew exactly that they wouldn’t outrun those wolves. Devon howled to get Jasper’s attention. Once she do, she raised her snout and indicate that they part ways as they couldn’t communicate using their mind, because they do not belong to a pack. The bond they have is only for friendship. It wasn’t the same as some wolves who are able to talk using their mind. Jasper nodded his head. His fur is brown. It was the color of the sand during early summer. It was beautiful. Unlike Devon, who had hers same as her mother, it was white as if the snow during the winter on its first fall. She gave him a signal. Right when they felt like that the hunters are getting closer, that’s when both of them move, running onto separate ways in hope that they would be able to escape unscathed this time. The moment she do, Devon knew that one of those two wolves trailed after her. But ‘stead of worrying after herself, she was more concerned about Jasper’s being. Too late to realized that it would be a dead end soon, if it wasn’t for the sudden whine her wolf released. Ahead of her, a cliff awaits. Her quick pace lessened, fair enough for Devon to stop. Her chest beating loudly. The adrenaline were rushing on her veins. She heard the sound of bones cracking behind her. She whipped her head across. It was of the male both her and Jasper meet earlier. A hunter. “There’s nowhere to run, little runt.” He had this sickening smile that churned her insides. “Don’t worry, I don’t mean no harm.” Devon growled. He was naked, but bareness do not actually matter for wolves like them. “It won’t hurt that bad.” He laughs. “Only if you won’t resist what I am going to do with you.” His orbs looks promising—a never ending anguish that lace his word. The torment he offered made her trembles, but she had not become a daughter of a former warrior for nothing. Her growl became more ferocious. The smile on his face vanish. “Then, I think we are going to do it the hard way, aren’t we?” Right before Devon could react, the man launched itself, what she didn’t expect was when he morphed onto the air driving his weight across to the stunned she is. The impact leave her breathless. He is heavier. To where his paw land leave some of her part broken, she swore he intentionally fractured her bones. It was painful. She couldn’t move. His wolf growled, while Devon cowered. It will take a time for her to heal. The man morphed back to his human form. “Now, we wouldn’t want to make it more painful, do we?” He coaxed. “Now I wanted you to transform.” She shook her head. No! In utter refusal, Devon screamed inside her head, but what can she do when she’s at his mercy. “You are a little stubborn, aren’t you?” Without much further ado, the man hovered above her. Devon were on anticipation what he would do, but the moment he put his hands to where the it hurt most, Devon gasp. She do not want to give him any satisfaction, but she couldn’t stop her whimpers. “I can take my time enjoying your agony, little runt.” He said dangerously. Tears streamed on her face. Left with no choice, Devon were forced to morphed. She hug herself and curled up as if it was enough to shield herself from his prying eyes. “It wasn’t hard, isn’t it?” He laughs. It was disgusting. She gritted her teeth. “I’ll f*****g kill you.” She was filled with hate. “Can you?” His laughs became mocking. “I don’t think you can. After I catch you, do you still think that you’ll be able to live the next day?” “It was against the law. You wouldn’t escape your punishment.” She counter back. “If they get to know.” Malice rendered his eyes. “But then, no one will know what we are going to do with you and to your little friend once we had our hands on him too.” “Don’t you f*****g dare!” “Did I ask you to raised your tone on me, little runt?” “Go to hell!” Stubborn, Devon run her big mouth before her head. “Me?” The amusement diminished. He walked closer. “Don’t you dare come any closer!” Her heart erratically beat. But the man did not listen, his presence brought demise, and as he went near, he bring his feet on the air and brought it down to Devon’s stomach. She cough. The pain is unbearable. What she bear doubles. It was like she’s been struck by something. It drive to her core earning more painful grunts form Devon. “See?” He takes entertainment at her own pain. “But I am just starting. What about your little face?” He showed her the sharpness of his claws. “N—no.” Her eyes widened. But a hunter same as him show no mercy. Her chest felt like it would rip apart, when the sharpness of his claw penetrated on her skin. It draw blood as she cries. The man laughs loudly above her. She could not take the pain anymore. Devon shut down both of her orbs, and uttering the words, reaching towards the only person who could have heard and felt her misery. Her mate. ‘Please, save me.’ However, she shouldn’t ask for more, nor wait any longer as above all sounds in shambles, one of the strongest and ferocious growled resonant its authority. It was intimidating as if to whoever it belongs to were meant to rule. It was scary, forcing the hunter, no matter how much he refuse into submission. And Devon didn’t know, but there’s this sense of familiarity that washed over her the moment she heard that growl. When the trees move sideways, and the bushes gave way to revealed a magnificent wolf with almost a gold coating, her chest fluttered and so she knew who he was. ‘MINE’ In sync, both her and her wolf uttered before she felt that the world around her suddenly spin, leaving her eyesight to get blurry, and that’s the last thing she could remember. Her consciousness slipped away. Devon had been taken by the darkness as the chaos unfold to where she was. @cycy
