Dante Camillo fought like a lion in the field, each land of the terrorists he captured, more were assigned with more ranks and more soldiers under him.
But all were baits, to draw him nearer to death.
Just a month of fighting in Iraq, the thousands of soldiers lost with their commanding officers showed how dangerous the region was.
“Whatever it is, I will not back down.” He said, beating his chest so hard.
Within seven months, Dante had captured one-third of the terrorized region killing up to tens of thousands of the terrorists.
On the battlefield, he fought them hand in hand like a ferocious beast.
Within three years, Dante had captured the whole of the terrorized region with only eighty loyal soldiers left. Most were killed and some had betrayed him to join the enemy troop.
He didn't let this deter him, now he was a conqueror.
The first Field Marshal.
But the victory was far from over. Now he had an even greater battle to fight.
Meeting one-on-one with those who killed his family and revenging.
Dante had lost everything, his family mansion and even the money in his family's account. The government must have seized it since the family, the owner were already gone.
Everything seemed bleak especially now he was left as a single dad to take care of his daughter with his wife abandoning him to be with another man.
Then a thought came to mind.
His real purpose.
He joined the Army and became great to be able to avenge those who massacred his family.
“But I can't fight with Melissa in my arms, let it not be like Caesar’s case.” He said, shrugging his shoulders.
“I'll return back to my wife, I'll ask her to take care of my daughter for me.”
“She can't do all those things now, I'm around and will be checking up on Melissa.” He thought to himself and off he returned to his wife.
“We all err, we deserve a second chance.”
With this, he approached Elene. She opened the door and immediately saw Dante, then her eyes cascaded below him, Melissa. Her frown grew even deeper.
“What's going on here baby?” The tall, muscular and slim man Elene got as her new man walked to her.
“Hun, it's this asshole who left me seven years ago for his own selfish needs.” She smirked, shrugging her shoulders.
“Watch your mouth lady!” Dante’s tone rang out, leaving both of them staring at him in awe.
“Hmm,” Elene scoffed, clapping her hands. “When did this small boy gain a voice?”
“I don't know why God will let you see today. People like you are best to die at war with no one to bury them.”
“What makes you say that to me?” Dante’s voice grew low, he wanted to make his wife realize her mistake but she wasn't even remorsed.
“No! Shut up!!”
“I know what I'm saying.” Elene blasted, her fiance supporting. Grabbing Dante’s hand, he pulled him to the entrance of the apartment.”
“Look around!”
“Did this apartment look like this when you left me with your daughter?” Her cold, lingering stare followed. Dante understood what she was trying to say.
“But you're a married woman, how dare you cheat on your husband with another man just because of money?”
“And I even came back to surprise you?”
“Well,” she c****d her head, rolling her eyes. “You returned only to get that surprise yourself.”
Her fiance walked towards them, glaring at Dante with fury.
“Now walk out of our apartment with your stupid daughter or else, I'll call the cops for you.”
The tone was harsh, stare so irritating. She was irritated by him. Dante stood there frustrated, his heart gripped in cold horror. It played like a movie before his eyes but it was real.
“Look I'm giving you a last chance, let's make this work, please come back to me.” He hated to hear himself beg but he couldn't help. At least he needed to make sure he gave her much opportunity, let her defy it, so he has more of a course for revenge when the time is right.
“Get away from here!” These words came with dirty water flying in the air from the bucket nearby on Dante.
“Don't you know this apartment with my fiance especially can buy the whole of you, your useless daughter and your tiny future?”
Dante couldn't bear this insult again. His muscles arched. His heart beat in fury. Grabbing Melissa, he threatened.
“You claimed your new man can buy my worth, daring to call my precious daughter useless?”
“You will be shocked at what will happen soon.”
“Go away!”
“You're only good at threats.” His wife screamed.
Taking his daughter's hand, he walked out of the estate, hoping to return in a big mood. His daughter raised her tiny eyes filled with so much trust in him.
“I will never disappoint you!” He said to her.
Arriving at the military headquarters where he temporarily lived, he handed her over to the care of the military nurse there for treatment.
“I'll pay you any amount later.”
Leaving there, Dante was heading to the bank. He was the heir, his granddad had put him as his next of kin.
“Anytime I'm no more, visit the bank, get everything transferred to your name and rule this mafia family with an iron fist.”
He had said and he still remembered it clearly.
“No one will oppose you.”
People were opposing him already but it's a challenge he has to surpass.
To get these billions of dollars would be difficult after seven years, but if he doesn't get it, how will he be able to protect himself and rebuild his life? How will he be able to get revenge on his wife?
