She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw him at the hotel today. The universe must have played a trick on her. Alexander Brooks, the man who left her 7 years ago, not caring to look back, and now he is in town as the new CEO of Skyrocket Hotel and whose decision has made her jobless. She thought the pain he added years ago was over but he had added another pain to it. He is her worst nightmare and she hates him.
She was struck with a migraine on her way home, and she got home feeling weak and tired, thankfully she only met Aunt Maria in the sitting room watching a movie while Jason was in his room taking a nap.
Immediately her aunt saw her enter, she knew something was wrong with her.
“Good evening, Aunt Maria,” she said faintly and took a seat.
“ How are you doing Nichole, you do not seem well”, Aunt Maria noted “You know you shouldn't have gone to work today since you are not well enough”, she added,
Nichole held her head in pain, “I am having migraine” she said. “Hold on let me get you pain reliever and water, then you will go inside and freshen up,” Aunt Maria said, looking very worried.
Aunt Maria got up to get water and a pain reliever. “Here you have it, Nichole,” she said.
Nichole swallowed the medicine and gulped the cup of water. “Thank you, aunt, what would I have done without you in my life? I love you,” Nichole said, feeling a little better. “I love you too Nichole.”
“I was better this morning, but something came up at work today which caused this migraine” she explained.
“What happened” her aunt asked.
Nichole explained everything that happened today at the hotel to Aunt Maria. From the pressmen at the front of the hotel, to what happened at the changing room, to her dismissal news, and eventually to seeing Alexander Brooks at the hotel.
Her aunt listened attentively as she narrated her ordeal, and patted her on the back, assuring her that she would get a better job.
“I am so sorry to hear from this sweetheart. Don't you think Alexander must have a reason he left years ago I am sure there is something behind his motive for leaving,” Aunt Maria told her
Nichole looked at her aunt as though Alexander paid her for saying this.
“Are you now supporting him for what he did now? Aunt Maria, you were there all along, you saw how he left me. I was depressed, lonely, heartbroken and I even carried his child while he left me to enjoy his life”, Nichole said, “And you think he has a reason he left? The only reason is to put me in pain, and he succeeded with that” she added angrily.
She stood up and went to her room, leaving Aunt Maria behind her.
She woke up the following morning at the sound of the alarm. She quickly got up from bed to prepare for work then the realization dawned on her that she didn't have a job again. She turned off the alarm and slept again.
When she woke up, she went out of her room. She noticed everywhere was silent, Aunt Maria must have taken Jason to school and stopped to get groceries since the fridge was almost empty.
She sat and turned on the TV, she kept changing to different channels but nothing interested her, she checked if there was something for her to do but everywhere was in order, courtesy of her aunt. She was not used to this kind of life, so she went inside her room to search for her phone, so she could play games.
On her way coming back, she heard a knock on the door. She knew her Aunt had her key, so she didn't have to knock. She wondered who it could be.
She went ahead to open the door, and there he was standing at her front door, looking well-dressed in a navy blue suit and Rolex wristwatch, and wearing expensive perfume for the rich. He has a big smile on his face when she him.
“Hello, what can I do for you?” she asked curtly.
“Please, can you at least let me in” he pleaded with her.
“You do not deserve to be here, but for old time's sake, I will let you inside,” Nichole said. She opened the door wide and let him in.
“Thank you, Nichole,” he said while he entered the house. He looked around the house and commented “This house has not changed, it is still the same since I last entered.”
Nichole kept looking at him as he was surveying the house and hoping he would not see any trace of a child. Thankfully, Jason's picture is not hung anywhere in the sitting room.
“I remember those days I sneaked inside through the back door to check up on you” he continued.
“Enough of the talk Alexander, why are you here,” she interrupted him.
He looked at her and showed a sad countenance.
“Nichole, I know I have wronged you, and I am sorry for the way I left you years ago. I am truly sorry, Nichole”, he apologized.
Nichole looked at him disgustingly as he apologized.
“So I should wave out from my memory the hurt you caused me that year, Alexander?” she asked “You hurt me, I gave you my whole, and you used. and dumped me”, she continued.
“And to crown it all, you took away my job and the jobs of others, you are such a wicked person, Alexander, and I hate you” She was very pissed off
“Nichole I am sorry, I can explain,” he said
“Explain what? Explain leaving us alone and going abroad to enjoy your life?” she
Alexander was surprised,” what do you mean by ‘us’?” he asked.
Realizing what she had just said, she changed her words. “I meant leaving me, your friends, and everyone in town, including your mother?”
“I am sorry, I was selfish” he replied.
“I am glad you know you are selfish and selfish men are not welcome in this house,” she said angrily. “So take your leave now, Alexander Brooks, and I don't want to ever see you around me”
Alexander looked at her, regretting everything he had done to her. He wished he could not have made the mistake of leaving her years back.
“Why are you staring at me and don't think you can bribe your way into my life with your wealth,” she said “I'm a woman who is independent, and I have been able to survive without you” she continued
“I will be right back, Nichole, and I will never stop until you forgive me”, he looked at her and left.
On his way back to work, Alexander received a call, and he told his driver to head to a certain place.
