CHAPTER EIGHT

Adeyemi's POV "We want your company to handle every detail, we will be sending you the proposal via email and it will contain the blueprints of what we want." Mr. Hopkins said over the conference call meeting. This is my third conference call meeting today and I'm a little bit happy that I don't have to be there physically to take the nonsense most of these companies have been saying but I am extremely exhausted and my ears are drumming. "Please forward the email to my assistant and then we can submit it to our I.T team. Thank you for taking this deal." So far this was the second deal that made a little more sense than the others. My company was in England because I was already living there since I graduated but after the instruction to come to Nigeria, we started expanding which is why most of the meetings I have are conference meetings online. "Not a problem. I look forward to working with you although it would have been great if we met physically. Give me a call when you are back in the states and we can have a lunch meeting" the old man said smiling. "Of course, take care and have a nice day" he nodded in reply before disconnecting the call and leaving my assistant and me. "Once they send the email, forward it to me and take the blueprints to the I.T team and have them report to me in two days," I ordered, closing my browser page. "Yes sir" Grace, my assistant said while nodding firmly as a habit before ending the call. I arched back on the chair I'd been sitting on for the past five hours and stretched my limbs only to hear my stomach grumble. Sighing, I picked up my keys and dialed Peter's number. "What's up man?" he said, picking up after the third ring. Peter was my close friend in Nigeria. We met when I came for some clearance and he has been a great help to me. "Hey, are you busy?" I asked entering my car. "If you call trying to get my roommate to stop yelling at our neighbor busy, then I'm not. What's up? You need something?" he asked and I heard yelling underneath. "Where would you recommend a good restaurant, I'm seriously hungry and I do not have the patience to cook something up," I asked, driving out of my apartment. "I know a place they sell the best Amala and Gbegiri soup. I'll give you directions if you take me with you, anything to get away from my yelling roommate" he said, yelling the last part out. "Sure, I'll be at your place in five minutes," I said, before ending the call. I reached Peter's apartment in under five minutes to see him practically waiting at the gate, he entered the car once he sees me. "Let's go we don't have much time before my roommates come out to find me," he said erratically making me drive out of there. "Why did you take him as your roommate knowing his attitude?" I asked because this wasn't the first or second time he's running from his roommate. "Having a roommate is like marriage, you never know the person's true colors until you live with them" he said while looking at me like I wouldn't understand, and yes, I didn't. "Okay, whatever you say so where is the place?" I asked and he directed me. We soon reached the place and we placed our orders. "Why are you this hungry? Didn't you eat at all today?" Peter asked noticing how I kept tapping my legs. "I've been working non-stop; it feels good to have a break" Two ladies set down our food and gave us a bowl of water. Whenever I think of having a break, Darasismi enters my mind but I do not want to seem bothersome or clingy so she won't push me back into the careful zone. Not to mention my surprise when I found out she has a child. So many scenarios went through my mind that day, all I could think about is what happened. Seeing the child, I knew she was about eight to nine years old which means she would have been underaged to give birth but when I saw the apprehensive look on Dara's face, I knew I had to let it go, for now, I wanted to know her, understand her so I'm happy to play along and maybe one day, she'll tell me. "So, what's up? Yeah, I've been meaning to ask you, what's going on between you and that girl? What's her name oo?" Peter asked while having a look of curiosity on his face as he scratches his head trying to recollect her name. "Do you mean Oluwadarasimi?" I asked and creased my brows in question and he immediately clapped his hand as if in remembrance. "Yes Darasimi, what's up between you and her if I know you well, you don't associate people without a reason," he asked, leaning in as he takes another hand full of Amala. "Nothing is going on yet, we are just on the pathway of being good friends" I replied emphasizing yet while shrugging my shoulders only for my black friend to lean in towards me and wink. "Yet?" He asked still wiggling his eyebrows as he eats his food. I just shook my head at his antics. "Yes, yet. I don't know, I just have an inkling in my spirit to have her close you know? It's like God wants me to do something but I just don't know what it is" it was true, whenever I was around her, I had a twitch in my spirit to want to get to know her more, she seems to have more about her than she lets on. There is just something about her I can't stop thinking about. "Hmmm, and have you asked God what it is?" He asked, waving his hand and I give him the 'are you kidding me look'. "Do you think I wouldn't have done what he asked if he had answered me? He just keeps telling me to wait and watch. I feel like Hosea the watchman guy" I deadpanned while racking my brain for all the possible reasons why I have to keep thinking about this woman. "Maybe she is your wife," Peter said, with an amused smile on his face making me sprinkle water on it. "What? That's not possible" Could that be the reason? I don't think so. Peter's words stuck with me but I didn't want to dwell on them because he might be wrong and I'll start looking at things in a different light. I shook off the thoughts about it. "I mean, think about it. God wouldn't have brought you guys together without a reason, that I know for sure" he said nodding his head as if to make a sure point. I'm sure there is a reason but I just don't know what. "I'll just have to wait and watch," I said shrugging while chugging down a bottle of water. We soon finish our food and leave after paying the bill. Peter and I talk for another few minutes while I drove to his house. Dropping him in his hostel, my phone suddenly rings and I look at the ID only to see my assistant's number flash on the screen. "What is it, Grace? Am I not done for the day?" I asked once I picked up the call. "Unfortunately, no sir. You have a meeting with Anthony Rivers, the owner of the Luna Phone company and after that, a meeting with your dad" she said. "Wait, my dad? Why would he set up a meeting" he could just call me, I mean he's my dad. Could there be a problem? "He said it's about urgent business not personal. He didn't give me the details" hmm, business. I hope it isn't about taking over the company because we already talked about it and I told him I wasn't ready for that kind of burden, I just started mine for Christ's sake. Sighing, I massaged my temple to stop the incoming headache. "Alright, Grace, anything else?" I was already tired and just wanted to get some shut-eye but work came first. I did put all my effort and hard work into my studies so I could one day say I built my own company without my parent's influence and I'm grateful to my mother for raising us the way she did. My mum, Motunrayo Coker, is a Nigerian from Ibadan. She met my dad when he came to Ibadan for a business meeting and as my dad would say 'She changed my life. They moved to Lagos when my dad popped the question. My parents are both Christians so they believed in Godly discipline for which I'm grateful for. They had made my sister and I enter the Choir saying we had a gift that should be used back for God again, something I'm grateful for. I came back to Nigeria after eight years in England because I wanted to have a Master's certificate in computer science and not just Business administration. "Yes sir, immediately after you have a meeting with the IT team, I have sent you the email," she said making me groan a little. "Okay, thank you, Grace," I said before ending the call. I soon reached my apartment to get some sleep before the next meeting. When my phone pinged to show I had a message. 'Hey, good afternoon. How are you doing? I remember you told me you have a contract meeting today, how was it? Did you get the contract?' my face curled up in a smile at Oluwadara's message and just like that, my sleep vanished.
