Chapter 4- Evie
“Julian!” I called walking towards the football field. The group of cheerleaders turned to me.
“And you are?” the leader prep asked. Her hair was a dyed platinum blonde, her pink nails were an inch long, she was thin, too thin for her body type. She flipped her hair over her shoulder.
“Evie.”
“Well Evie, Julian is a little busy.” She turned back to the field I raised an eyebrow setting a hand on my hip.
“And are you his receptionist? Should I book an appointment?” I asked her head snapped back to me.
“If you must know I’m his girlfriend.” My chest fell.
“You’re his girlfriend?” I took a second look at her, it seemed to fit. I could see them being a couple. The cheerleader and the football star, it didn’t stop my heart from tearing open.
“Going on one date with a guy a couple months ago doesn’t count as you being his girlfriend.” The guy that Julian had thrown the football too my first day stood on the other end of the bench. He headed towards me.
“I’m Dominic, but everyone calls me Dom.” He held out his hand slinging a football under his arm.
“Evie.” He nodded
“I know who you are, Sorry about the football by the way. I’m still not sure how he made captain with throws like that.” I giggled.
“Julian has told me all about you.” I raised an eyebrow.
“He doesn’t know anything about me.” Dom’s smile faltered for a split second then he regained it.
“I mean about how a ball buster you are. I don’t think anyone has ever turned Julian down for anything. I admire it someone needs to cut down his ego once in a while.” Julian must have seen us talking because he came barrelling towards us, almost pushing Dom over.
“Evie what are you doing here? Did you change your mind? I’ll introduce you to the girls—“
“We already met and no I didn’t change my mind, I do have a question for you though.” He face fell a little and my heart twisted.
“Uh ok shoot”
“What’s the story with you and Oliver?” I asked. The boys turned to each other I looked over to see Shay glaring at us. The guys shared a silent exchange I was getting frustrated. “Why is everyone doing that? What is the big deal?”
“Why do you care?” Julian asked his voice harsh. His face went from happy to pissed.
“Because it makes no sense for you two to be fighting over something that isn’t your fight” I slurred out an answer. Honestly I didn’t have a very good answer on why I wanted to know so bad.
“It’s none of your business.” Julian growled. I must have looked hurts because his eyes soften a bit but his face stayed hard.
“You know for someone that has constantly been trying to get me to where I’m standing right now your being a real dick.” I said flinging my guard up.
“You’re not out here cause you want to be your out here for Oliver.” He accused
“Oh really and what could he possibly do for him? Make you spill all your secrets? Give him information on something I don’t know about because no one will tell me!”
By this point Julian and I stood face to face only inches apart. Shock waves flew between us if I wanted all I had to do was lean in and I could kiss him, but I was to mad to even think much about that.
Julian huffed taking a step back. He pulled a hand through his hair. The bell rang in the distance signalling lunch was over and classes were to restart. The group that had crowded around us began to head back to the school. Dom stay glued to Julian’s side.
“Look, it’s nothing to concern yourself with Evie.”
“If I want—I stopped. What I was going to say was if I want you and to be friends with Oliver then I needed to know, but I couldn’t say that, I wouldn’t. Julian couldn’t know that I was actually attracted to him. He seemed to know what I was going to say anyway.
“Look meet me at the library downtown tonight around 9” he pulled a sharpie out of his bag grabbed my arm and wrote his number on it. “I’ll explain everything.” With that he picked his backpack up off the ground and walked to the school Dom following behind him.
