One True Mate- Chapter 6

Chapter 6- Evie   Oliver peppered me with questions in Bio. I dodge most of them, but some I answered with a basic yes or no. BY the end of the period I had satisfied him enough that he was happy. “Did you wanna come over tonight and study for the exam tomorrow?” he asked as we pack up our things after class and headed to the door. “Thanks but . . . I have to babysit my sisters tonight, maybe for the next exam?” he nodded understandly. I hated lying to him, Oliver had been nothing but nice to me, and I had turned my back and agreed to go over to his enemies house tonight. “I get it I got younger siblings too. I can come over to your place if that’s easier” “NO!” I yelled, turning to him, heads of fellow students turned as they walked past us and Oliver raised a eyebrow we stopped at my locker. “I mean, my sisters are a handful and uh my dad doesn’t like boys over when he isn’t around.” I lied. Oliver smiled a small smile. “Oh he’s one of those dads huh? I bet ya I could sweet talk him.” He waggled his eyebrows, I laughed as I opened my locker and threw my books in. “I’m sure you could, but no.” I said slamming my locker door closed. He nodded giving up. As we turned to head towards the parking lot we walked past Julian he smiled and winked at me as we passed, and threw a dirty look Oliver’s way, it was like he walked in slow motion, I could see every one of his flawless features. His crystal blue eyes, shiny black hair that just reached his ears. His T-shirt showed off his broad chest his arms swinging as we walked, I couldn’t help but smile. Olive grumbled. Oliver and I parted ways at his car. I watched him get into the driver’s seat and back up out of the crowded parking lot. I waved and headed towards Allan’s car. I heaved my bag onto the hood and dug through it for the keys. After dumping out half of my backpack on the floor I found them setting them on the hood I shoved all my school stuff into my bag. I heard them slide of the hood and hit the pavement with a ping. I looked down, but couldn’t see them. “s**t” I muttered getting on my hands and knees to look under the car, they weren’t there. I shook my head “Great, just great” “Looking for these?” I jumped smacking my head on the rear view mirror above me. “Son of a. . .” I looked up rubbing my head. Julian stood above me Allan’s keys hanging off his finger. I stood up careful not to hit my head again. “Where did you come from?” I asked he wasn’t there a second ago. He gave me a gorgeous crocked smile. “Well about 9 months before my birthday my Mom and Dad—“ “I don’t need to hear that” I interrupted waving my hands in front of me. I unlocked the car door, opening the driver’s side I threw my backpack onto the seat. “You’re coming tonight right?” he checked. Julian stood there his hands in his pockets looking at the ground. He looked almost worried or nervous. I raised an eyebrow. “If you still want me too.” I said crossing my arms. “Of course I do! Uh I mean you wanted answers so . .” He trailed off. “And you will tell me what I want to know?” he nodded a small smile of his face. “On one condition.” Julian lifted a finger signalling a one. My hands went to my hips. “Since when is there a condition?” “Since I decided it wasn’t fair that you got to have all the fun and ask all the questions.” I rolled my eyes “I get to ask you questions too” “Ok fine.” “And you have to answer them. Honestly.” He added I sighed. “Deal.” I put my hand out and he shook it, when I went to let go he pulled my hand towards him I stumbled my body landing right against his. “Seal it with a kiss?” he asked leaning in. I almost went for it. I wanted too so bad, but I didn’t because I knew it wouldn’t end well. Instead I leaned in almost to his lips, his arm tightened around me. “You wish.” I muttered pushing out of his arms and hopping into the driver’s seat. I closed than door, backed up leaving him standing in the parking lot shaking his head.   I picked up the twins where I had dropped them off that morning. The girls talked about their day, finishing each other sentences, continuously telling me how cool it was that they didn’t have to walk home. How all their friends had bug eyes when they watched me pull up and the girls get in. I smiled having Alan gone had been the best thing to happen to me since I moved to Van cover! I knew Alan would be back at the house at some point, probably sooner rather than later. I tried not to think about that, it ruined my mood too much. I still had Alan’s credit card, and there was no food in the house, so I pulled into the closest grocery store. “Come on girls” I said grabbing my purse from the back seat “Let’s get some food.” I loved grocery shopping. As stay at home mom as it sounded I liked looking at the isles of different foods, millions of options to make millions of different things. As much as I wanted to buy the whole store on Alan’s dime I had to keep it under wraps. I couldn’t get too much I didn’t want Alan knowing that I had his card. And if I maxed it out I’m sure he would assume it was me. The twins grabbed a cart and followed me around the store as I threw stuff in. I grabbed the basics bread, milk, eggs, vegtables, meat and of course some snacks for us. “Evie can we get a chocolate bar?” Allison asked smiling up to me with big eyes and one tooth missing. “You can get one.” I said lifting my finger to signal a one. The twins jumped up and down as ran to the chocolate bar isle. I grabbed the cart and drove it up to the first cashier I found. Without looking I started to set the items on the belt. I heard the beep as they were being scanned through. The twins put their choice of chocolate bar on the belt as the last things to be scanned. I looked up at the cashier and took a step back. Mitch stood there looking at me. “Hey Mitch.” I greeted “Hey. Buying the whole store?” there was no joke in his voice, he didn’t seem like much of a jokester to me. “Almost.” I muttered as I watched him bag the last items. I handed the girls their chocolate bars. “Kinda strange that you’re buying all the groceries.” He said leaning against the scanner and raising an eyebrow at me. “Uh. Well my Dad is super busy with work, just trying to help out.” I excused. He just nodded, not believing a word I said and handing me my receipt. “But Alan isn’t—“ Allison started, I interrupted her. “Thanks, I’ll see you tomorrow” I waved and booked it out of the grocery store the girls running behind me. After we unloaded the groceries I started supper. Every other minute I looked up towards the front door, dreading when Alan would walk back in. I knew s**t was gonna go down when he got back, but at this moment I didn’t care. Allison and Andrea were happy and having fun. At the age of six they shouldn’t have to be walking a mile to and from school, they shouldn’t have to dread the return of their foster parent. They should be able to do after school activities and have those foster parents there for them. I didn’t know the story behind why Allison and Andrea were in foster care, as far as I knew they had been since they were babies. We ate supper in front of the T.V again. I watched the time slowly tick by until nine. I wanted to find out what was with Julian and Oliver . . . or I just wanted to see Julian. I wasn’t completely sure which one I wanted more.  At eight I got the girls ready for bed. While they were brushing their teeth I got a text.   You still coming tonight? I raised an eyebrow, I had no idea who’s number it was. I texted back and asked. Juilan. How did you get my number? I texted back I have connections. Was all I got I rolled my eyes and slipped my phone back in my pocket. I closed the door to the girls room after tucking them in, my phone beeped again. So you’re coming right? Yes I’m coming.
