ROSE'S POV The next morning wasn’t much different from any other, except that I had the comfort of my own bed I hadn’t seen Kyle since the confrontation in the infirmary, and part of me was thankful. It’s easier this way—at least for now. The more distance between us, the smoother things will be. Maybe we just needed time apart. If he stayed on his side of the house, and I stayed on mine, everything would fall back into place. No complications, no hurt. Or so I hoped. With my backpack slung over my shoulder, I made my way to school. The school halls were alive with chatter and energy, filled with students moving through their morning routines. I slipped into the familiar sea of faces, keeping my head down, but secretly scanning for someone who could make all of this bearable. Brando
