"Leave now!" he screamed. “But—” I started, my voice trembling. I hoped that somehow, that he would let me explain. I just wanted to talk to him. “Just go!” he said. I stood frozen for a moment, staring at the door with my heart pounding. I wanted for some sign that he might soften, that maybe he didn’t mean it. But there was only silence. A thick, suffocating silence that swallowed the last of my hopes. He didn't want to talk to me. With a heavy heart and trembling hands, I turned and walked away.
