Chapter Three

1039 Words
Elizabeth POV: I ran out of the school doors and down the stairs. I walked down the sidewalk to my car.I opened the trunk and placed my gifts gently inside before closing it. I smelled something great in the air, it smelled like juniper berries. I looked around but didn’t see anyone. It felt like someone was watching me, but I just shook the feeling off. I checked my watch to see that I only had four minutes to get back to the school and to the other side of the building. I could make it if I ran full throttle. I took off running, I took the stairs two at a time and ran right into what felt like a wall when I opened the doors. I was caught and placed back on my feet before I could say a word. I looked up to see a tall guy with long scruffy brown hair that hung over his eyes. He wore baggy, depressing clothes. The smell was coming from him! My wolf Meena was howling in my head. “Hey we found our mate! “ she said cheerfully. “Mate!” I said looking at him. He sucked in a breath and quickly turned to walk away. I was confused for a few seconds before running after him. “Hey, you're my mate, don’t you wanna know my name or tell me yours? Maybe stare longingly into each other's eyes. Maybe if you move your hair away from your eyes you will be able to see me.” I say trying to keep up with him. He stopped walking and turned away from me. “Listen, I don't really want to talk to you right now, let alone be around you. Just for right now, leave me alone.” He said before speed walking down the hall and disappearing. The bell rang letting me know I was late for class. I stood there dumbfounded trying to figure out what was going on today. Did I get sucked into an alternate dimension? What is going on today?! My boyfriend dumped me for his trash bag of a mate, and now my mate doesn’t want anything to do with me. “I’m not sure what is going on. I’m sure our mate has his reasons, Elizabeth.” Meena says whimpering I walked to class preparing to whine my way out of detention. I did end up getting detention. My teacher was not trying to hear my reason for being late. Mr. Burdhem must have been in a bad mood. Normally I had him wrapped around my little finger, like most of my other teachers. I would have to serve my detention after school, which was going to mess up my cheerleading practice. I got through the first two classes okay. Now it was time for my combat final. Werewolves have normal finals like humans, but we also have physical finals. Our stamina and endurance are tested, so is our combat, and strategy planning. As a higher ranked member with Alpha blood, more is expected of me performance wise. I wasn’t looking forward to it, mostly because I don’t like to get someone else’s blood or sweat on me. Which was hard to avoid in combat. Everyone graduating was randomly teamed up to fight against each other. The winners would compete against each other in the final tomorrow and then the winners of that would get a Medal of Honor. It meant a lot to omegas because it was an opportunity to boost their ranking in their pack. Only teachers and ranked members from the packs were welcome to watch. Four groups would fight at once. A list of who you were supposed to fight was posted outside of the gym. When I checked the list my face fell. This had to be a sick joke. My name and pack, Black River Pack: Elizabeth Riverheart, was right next to Half Moon Pack: Vivian Clairewoods. This couldn’t be happening to me. I didn’t want anything to do with Vivian or Justin. It was bad enough I would have to deal with her at cheer practice later. Now I have to fight her! This was not my day, I was confident in my ability to beat her. I know everyone would think I pulled some strings to be able to fight her though. The appointed referees came out and called in the first four teams to go against each other. I was safe for now at least, my group didn’t go until last. I was left to sit and wait at the benches they sat outside the gym. The boys sat to the left of the gym door while the girls sat to the right. Some girls from another pack sat down at the other end of my bench. I keep feeling eyes on me. When I look their way, I see them looking at me. They quickly look away. “Can I help you girls with something?” I say raising an eyebrow and folding my arms. “Are you Elizabeth Riverheart, the girl who caught her boyfriend in the act of mating?” One of the girls says laughing. I felt anger rising in me, also how could they not know who I was?Next thing I knew I was taking a backseat in my own body. “ Yes, I am the same one that can ruin you socially or physically… whichever you prefer.” Meena growled. The girls stopped laughing and all color ran from their faces. They zipped their lips after that. I regained control of myself. “Meena, thank you, but can you warn me next time?” “You're welcome, and I’m sorry. I’ll try to warn you next time.” Meena says. Gretchen and Katherine come and sit down by me. We talked amongst ourselves. I sat and waited as they were called in. The clock was ticking down and I know I would be called soon. I wasn’t sure what to do next. Do I beat Vivian and let everyone think I did this to get back at her and Justin. The alternative, letting her beat me wasn’t attractive at all. My Alpha blood wouldn’t allow it.
