The rest of the day passed in a blur. I had to report to detention, which I was not thrilled about. I couldn’t manage to dig up much more information on my mate. No one seemed to know anything about him other than what I already knew. I wonder why he has to be so mysterious. I sat doing all my homework with my eyes darting to check the clock every so often. I was pissed that I had to miss cheer practice. Finally the teacher let us leave. It was a little before 4:30 in the afternoon. I was walking out to my car when a familiar voice came to torture my ears. Vivian. I turned to look over my shoulder to see Vivian and some of my fellow cheer squad members approaching me.
“ It's a shame that you had to miss cheer practice today Elizabeth. Don’t worry I took control today. Seeing as you’ll be graduating at the end of this week I might as well just go ahead and become cheer captain.” Vivian sneered.
“ you know I’ve never met anyone who just wants to be me as much as you do Vivian. I bet you wish you could have my life don’t you? You might feel like you’re at the top of the world now because my ex boyfriend is now your mate, but believe me, the satisfaction will be short-lived.”
A couple of the members from my cheer squad smiled at me. A lot of them didn’t like Vivian either. Vivian huffed at what I said and stomped off towards her car.
I climbed in my car and headed back towards home. I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching me again. I decided to brush it off. I hope Mrs. Graceson is working on dinner. Hopefully it will be almost done when I get home.
I got home to the pack house and went upstairs to my room after saying hi to everyone. Mrs. Graceson had dinner on, but it wouldn’t be ready for another hour. After I finished what was left of my homework I plopped down on my bed. This was one of the worst days I’ve had in a long time. I wouldn’t say that I’ve lived as a princess most of my life but everything was pretty much smooth sailing for me. A knock came at my door.
“Who is it!?”
“It’s your mother.”
After a few seconds of mulling it over I decided to let her in.
“How was your day?” Mom says sitting on the edge of my bed, with a knowing look.
My mother had a kind of special intuition or a power when it came to these things. She was able to read people's emotions. She was like a well tuned empath.
I gave my mother the rundown of my day from start to finish. Leaving no details out, I even told her about what happened in the shower. She sat in silence until I was done speaking.
“ Well first I would like to say congratulations on finding your mate. After what you told me it does seem like they do want you. So I wouldn’t worry about a rejection. I’m sorry to hear about Justin but I never really liked him anyway to be honest. He always seems like a total tool. This Vivian girl just wants to be you. At the end of the day you have to remember we are more fortunate than most. So of course she is going to be bitter. Her pack isn’t even on equal footing with our pack. So do not pay her any mind, there isn’t really anything she can do to you but be a nuisance in your last week of school. I want you to focus on enjoying your last week of school, making lots of memories and taking lots of pictures. Try to talk to your mate, get to know them, ask them about themself. Perhaps they were a rogue who joined another pack most recently. If that’s the case then you won’t really find a lot of information about them. Besides what you can get them to say.”
“ See mom this is why I love talking to you about everything. You always have such good advice to give me. I never even thought about the fact that they could have been a rogue. It’s so rare that I even encounter rogues, I kind of completely forgot that they even existed.” I say making a whoops face.
“ Well I’m glad that you are open and honest with me sweetheart. I love our talks and I cannot wait to meet this new mate once you get to know them. Now I’ve got to go handle some issues with the catering for your party in the treaty signings. Not to mention getting all the stuff ready for your brother's ceremony. If you need anything else just let me know. I love you.” My mom says kissing me on the forehead before she leaves my room, shutting the door behind her. I lay back on my bed thinking about everything that she said. My mate probably was a rogue and that’s why I can’t find any information about them.
I breathe in deeply and breathe out, calming myself. OK, tomorrow will be better and I will not let Vivian get under my skin. I curled up on my bed to one of my plush pillows and fell asleep until dinner was ready.
