Chapter Seven

1028 Words
I was woken up from my nap by Meridith for dinner. “Hey Elizabeth. Wake up, dinner is ready.” She says, shaking me gently. I sat up and yawned. “Oh, hello Meridith. Why didn’t my mom come wake me up?” I say. “Oh, um, I should warn you. Everything is kind of hectic downstairs…” Meridith says lacing her fingers together. “What is going on? Why is everything crazy?” “Well your parents just got news that some members of the royal family will be coming. Your mom is frantic trying to make adjustments to the decor and the catering. Since the royal family is coming your father and brothers are busy readying the warriors. They want to make a good impression and protect the royal family and our pack too.” Meridith says timidly. “WHAT! Why are they coming?!” I screech. “ Well they didn’t say exactly why they were coming. One of the members of the royal representatives reached out to let us know that the king and the three princes will be attending. The representative did assure us it’s not for a bad reason or anything though. They are bringing several members of the royal guard as well.” she says “ Well this just keeps getting better and better doesn’t it? My last week of school has started off rough. Now the royal family is coming to crash my birthday party. Everyone is going to be focused on them. They’re going to outshine me at my own party!” I whine. Meredith does a slight nod of her head but doesn’t look me in the eyes as she leaves the room. I sat in bed for a few minutes processing what she had said. Why on earth would the royal lycan family want to come down from their thrown up in Canada to our pack for my birthday party? The royal family consisted of 12 members. There was the current King, King Rubious and his Queen, Queen Carlita. Then there were their three triplet sons that would be the next kings, and their daughter, the princess. An aunt and uncle and nephew and niece and two grandparents made up the rest of the royal family. However the ones with the real power were the first five. I pinched the bridge of my nose trying to not stress. Why would they be coming? With them here I have to make sure I’m on my best behavior. Everything has to be perfect. This party was going to be stiff and boring while they were here. Every werewolf in attendance would likely be scared to breathe wrong. Lycans are nothing like werewolves. They were first created by the moon goddess. Centuries before werewolves ever came to be. We know very little of their history. They keep it hidden from us in secret libraries. They are faster, stronger, bigger and have access to abilities we don’t even know. There is a myth that they can cross into another realm too. It was hard to know as werewolves what was actually true. Lycans saw us as a lesser species of them. Only created for them to rule over us. Most werewolves were terrified to ever even try to speak to a lycan, even an alpha was no match for a lycan. I let out a heavy sigh and climbed out of bed. Checking my reflection in the mirror. I adjusted some of my makeup and headed downstairs for dinner. When I reached the bottom of the staircase I could see the chaos that our pack house had become. A horde of omegas were rushing around in a scurry. Some carried decorations, flowers, and balloons. Some of the warriors were helping rearrange furniture and carrying in more tables and chairs. Large platforms were being carried in by the strongest warriors. More omegas trailing them with large pieces of fabric. I followed my mothers voice. She was moving busily around everywhere giving directions, with our Beta female Kim following her around with a clipboard. Everything looked a complete mess and I knew that is how it would be for the next three days. When my mom spotted me she came over and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. “ Hey sweetheart, sorry everything is complete chaos right now. I’m sure Meridith filled you in on the news. Your dad and brothers are busy training the warriors to death right now. He barely let me borrow the few I have to help now. Sorry tonight you are going to have to eat dinner alone. I know it’s not fair but we don’t want to risk upsetting the royal family. We are all a little on edge because they refused to disclose why they were coming. They rarely come to just hang out with us “lower life forms.”” My mother says snidely. “ It is putting me on edge too. They usually come to deal out punishments or take prisoners.” Kim says grimly, sending shivers through all of our spines. “Anyway, run along and enjoy dinner. I just had it set up for you. Kim and I have to get back to work, there is still so much to do.” My mom says as she rushes off with Kim to attend to more party preparations. I wander off to the dining hall by myself and sit down to my dinner. Beef Wellington that melted in my mouth on the first bite. I greedily scarfed the food down. Mrs. Graceson’s food always helped me feel better. She must have known I needed a pick me up tonight because she outdid herself. After I finished eating I offered some help to my mother, which she refused. “I want you to relax, that is an order. Enjoy your birthday week sweet heart.” I decided to take a shower and turn in for the night. Tomorrow I was going to get to know more about Brendon. He was a mystery, he just appeared out of nowhere. I love a good mystery, it almost makes me excited to uncover his identity.
